# How to find contact information for any company or person, by situation

Start with what you already have: a company name, a website, a person's name or a LinkedIn URL. Each one points to a different free source or lookup, and every contact needs a check before you use it.

By Enrich.chat Editorial. Updated October 16, 2026.

**Short answer:** To find contact information, start with what you already have. A company name leads to its website, [SEC filings](https://www.sec.gov/files/form10-k.pdf) or a company register for a main phone and address. A name plus a company website leads to an email finder, and a LinkedIn URL leads to a lookup for a work email and mobile. Check each contact before you use it.

## Key takeaways

- A company's main phone and address are public in several places: its website, the cover page of a US [Form 10-K](https://www.sec.gov/files/form10-k.pdf), a company register or [Google Business Profile](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7032839). Named people and direct lines usually are not.
- A UK registered office address is [public on the register](https://www.gov.uk/limited-company-formation/company-address), but the registered email is not. A US registered agent's address can belong to a lawyer or an agent service, not the head office.
- LinkedIn shows Contact info [only to 1st-degree connections](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a545600/what-people-can-see-on-your-profile) and does not permit browser extensions that scrape its pages.
- Free allowances on October 16, 2026: Hunter 50 credits a month, RocketReach 3 lookups, ContactOut 5 emails and 5 phones a day, and Enrich.chat 10 lookups a day with no signup.
- The FTC says [CAN-SPAM has no business-to-business exception](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business), with penalties up to $53,088 per email. The Do Not Call Registry covers personal numbers, not business lines.

## How do you find contact information, whatever you start with?

Start with what you already have, because each starting point has a different fastest route. A company name leads to public records. A person's name plus a company website leads to an email format or a finder. A LinkedIn URL leads to a lookup that returns a work email and a mobile.

This guide covers professional contact details: email, phone, address and social profiles for companies and the people who work there. Most searches take two or three of the four steps in the figure.

**Figure 1: Four steps to a usable contact, and where to start.** Four steps run left to right. Step one finds the company, using its site, filings and registries. Step two finds the right person, using a team page, the LinkedIn People tab or a title search. Step three gets the contact, using the company email format, an email finder or a lookup from a LinkedIn URL. Step four checks the contact for email status, line type and legal rules. Start at step one with only a company name, at step two with a company website, and at step three with a name and site or a LinkedIn URL. A strip at the bottom says that anyone who already has a LinkedIn URL can start at step three.

*The four steps from a company name to a checked contact, and where to start. The order is our editorial view, not a measured rate. Sources for each step are in the sections below.*

The table maps nine common starting points to a route and a cost. "Free" means public sources that cost nothing but time.

| You have | You need | Fastest route | Cost |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| A company name | Website, main phone, address | The company site, then filings, a register or Google Business Profile | Free |
| A company website | General email or phone | Contact page, footer, page source and role mailboxes such as info@ | Free |
| A company website | The right person | Team page, LinkedIn People tab, or the people endpoint with a job title | Free, or 5 credits per person on the API |
| A name and a company website | Work email | Company email format plus a check, or an email finder | 10 free lookups on the website tools |
| A LinkedIn profile URL | Work email and mobile | A URL lookup that never logs in to LinkedIn | 10 free lookups, then plans from $29 a month |
| A work email address | Who owns it | A reverse lookup through the person endpoint | 10 free a day, then plans from $29 a month |
| A local business | Phone, address, website | Its Google Business Profile | Free |
| A licensed professional | Practice address | The public register for that profession | Free |
| A list of people | Email or mobile for each | An AI agent or the API, one call per row | 10 free a day, then plans from $29 a month |

## Where do you find a company's phone number, address and general email?

Look at the company's own pages first, then at filings and registers. Each place publishes a different piece of the picture, and each leaves something out, as Figure 2 shows.

1. **Read the website.** Check the Contact, About and Press pages and the footer. PR Newswire's template guide tells companies to [include the name, phone number and email address of a media contact](https://www.prnewswire.com/resources/articles/press-release-templates/), so recent press releases often end with one. Try role mailboxes too. [RFC 2142](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc2142.html) sets standard mailbox names for business functions, including info, marketing, sales and support. A company only needs the ones that match services it runs, so test an address before you rely on it.
2. **Check the page source.** Some sites publish contact details as structured data. [Google's Organization markup](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/organization) has fields for address, telephone, email and sameAs profile links, and none of them is required. View the page source in your browser and search it for "telephone".
3. **Search Google Business Profile for a local business.** Google's help page says an owner can enter a [primary phone number plus up to 2 more](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7032839), add a website, and choose not to show the phone number or the address.
4. **Open SEC filings for a US public company.** The cover page of [Form 10-K](https://www.sec.gov/files/form10-k.pdf) asks for the address of the principal executive offices and the registrant's telephone number. The SEC gives [free public access to filings](https://www.sec.gov/search-filings) through EDGAR.
5. **Search the register for a private company.** In the UK, a company's registered office address is [publicly available on the online register](https://www.gov.uk/limited-company-formation/company-address), and the registered email address is not published. [Companies House](https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/) says it does not check the accuracy of what companies file. In the US, each state keeps its own register. A registered agent exists to accept legal papers, and the [Oregon Secretary of State](https://sos.oregon.gov/business/Pages/registered-agents-service-of-process.aspx) says the agent is often an officer, a lawyer, an accountant or an agent service company. The registered address may not be where staff work.
6. **Use a government directory for public bodies.** The [USA.gov agency index](https://www.usa.gov/agency-index) lists websites, email addresses, phone numbers and addresses for US federal agencies.

**Figure 2: Six public places that publish company contact details, and what each leaves out.** Six cards. A company website publishes a contact page, a footer and optional page markup, and leaves out anything the company chooses not to list. A US SEC Form 10-K publishes the head office address and main phone, and leaves out companies that do not file with the SEC. The UK Companies House register publishes the registered office address and leaves out the registered email. A US state register publishes the registered agent and office address, which can be a lawyer's or an agent's address. A Google Business Profile publishes an address, a website and up to three phones, and owners can hide the phone or address. The NPI Registry publishes a US healthcare provider's name, specialty and practice address, and does not prove the provider is licensed.

*What six public places publish about a business, and what each leaves out. Business Profile means Google Business Profile, and the NPI Registry covers US healthcare providers. Sources: [Google](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/organization), [SEC](https://www.sec.gov/files/form10-k.pdf), [GOV.UK](https://www.gov.uk/limited-company-formation/company-address), [Oregon Secretary of State](https://sos.oregon.gov/business/Pages/registered-agents-service-of-process.aspx), [Google Business Profile Help](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7032839), [CMS](https://npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov/).*

Domain WHOIS rarely helps now. Under ICANN's Registration Data Policy, in effect since August 21, 2025, a registrar that redacts the registrant's email must [publish an email address or a link to a web form](https://www.icann.org/en/contracted-parties/advisories/advisory-registrars-use-of-communication-web-forms-in-rdds-25-05-2026-en) instead. You may get a form, not a person.

None of these places reliably gives a named person's direct line. For the general inbox, see our guide to [finding a company's email address](https://enrich.chat/blog/find-company-email-address/). For people, go to the next step.

## How do you find a specific person's work email and phone number?

Find the right person first, then get the email and phone for that one person. A published address beats a guess, and a lookup returns each detail with a status so you know how far to trust it.

### Find the right person

Check the company's team page and the People tab on its LinkedIn Page. LinkedIn says the People tab [only appears if the Page has employees associated with it](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a550270), so staff who do not list the company will be missing. You can also search by title. Describe the role in plain English in the [AI lead list builder](https://enrich.chat/tools/lead-list-builder/), or have your agent call the people endpoint with a domain and a job title. Our guides to [finding decision makers](https://enrich.chat/blog/decision-makers-in-a-company/) and [finding a CEO's email](https://enrich.chat/blog/find-ceo-email/) cover role-based searches.

### Get the work email

Many companies build every address from one pattern. Find the pattern with the [email format finder](https://enrich.chat/tools/email-format-finder/), apply it to the name, and check the mailbox with the [email finder](https://enrich.chat/tools/email-finder/). Our [guide to business email formats](https://enrich.chat/blog/email-address-formats/) lists the common patterns. The full routine, with eight methods ranked by reliability, is in [how to find someone's work email](https://enrich.chat/blog/how-to-find-someones-email/).

### Use a LinkedIn profile URL

LinkedIn's Contact info section is [only visible to 1st-degree connections](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a545600/what-people-can-see-on-your-profile). If you are not connected, a lookup can take the profile URL as a key. Enrich.chat never logs in to LinkedIn and never uses your account. That matters because LinkedIn says it does not permit [browser extensions that scrape, modify or automate its site](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1341387), and members who use them risk restricted accounts. The [guide to finding email on LinkedIn](https://enrich.chat/blog/find-email-on-linkedin/) covers the manual routes.

### Find out who owns an email address

Enrich.chat's person endpoint also accepts a work email and returns the person behind it. It does not look up personal addresses such as gmail.com. The domain after the @ already names the company, and our guide to [who owns an email address](https://enrich.chat/blog/who-owns-this-email-address/) covers the steps.

### Get a phone number

A phone number is a main line, a direct dial or a mobile. A company website may list only the main line. Our guide to [direct dials](https://enrich.chat/blog/direct-dials/) explains the difference, and [how to get phone numbers from LinkedIn](https://enrich.chat/blog/find-phone-number-from-linkedin/) covers the LinkedIn routes. A mobile found through Enrich.chat uses 250 credits, the most of any lookup, so ask for one only when you plan to call. The free [phone number validator](https://enrich.chat/tools/phone-number-validator/) shows whether a number is a mobile, landline or VoIP line.

### Check a professional register

Some professions publish a register. The [NPI Registry](https://npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov/), a free CMS directory of US healthcare providers, publishes each provider's name, specialty and practice address. CMS notes that having an NPI does not prove a provider is licensed or credentialed. Search for the register that covers your target's profession.

## How do you find a company's or a person's social profiles?

A company's website usually links to its profiles in the header or footer. Some sites also list them in the sameAs field of their markup, which Google describes as a [link to the organization's profile on a social media or review site](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/organization).

On LinkedIn, the About tab of a company Page [shows size, industry and locations](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a550270). To jump straight to a Page from Google, use the [site: operator](https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433), for example `site:linkedin.com/company acme`, with no space after the colon. For a person, start from the company's team page, which often links to their profile.

## What do the main contact finder tools give you for free?

Most contact finders offer a small free allowance, enough to test one or two searches. The table shows what each vendor's own page listed on October 16, 2026.

| Tool | Free allowance | Finds |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Enrich.chat | 10 API lookups a day per IP, no signup | Work email, mobile, profile, company, people at a company |
| [Hunter](https://hunter.io/pricing) | 50 credits a month on the Free plan | Work emails |
| [RocketReach](https://rocketreach.co/pricing) | 3 free lookups, no credit card | Emails, plus phones on its Pro and Ultimate plans |
| [SignalHire](https://www.signalhire.com/pricing) | 5 free credits, or 10 a month with its browser extension | Emails and phones |
| [ContactOut](https://contactout.com/pricing) | 5 emails, 5 phones and 5 exports a day, listed as limited time | Emails and phones |
| [Voila Norbert](https://www.voilanorbert.com/) | The first 50 email leads | Work emails |

Hunter, RocketReach, SignalHire, ContactOut and Voila Norbert each list a browser extension on their own pages. [Hunter's extension](https://hunter.io/), for example, finds the email addresses behind the websites you browse. Enrich.chat has no Chrome extension and no built-in dialer or sequencing. It also returns a company's name, domain, industry, headcount, state and country, not a switchboard number or street address, so use the company sources above for those.

A free allowance answers "can I find this person?" It does not answer "can I find 500 people?" For paid plans, read our guides to [Hunter](https://enrich.chat/blog/hunter-io-pricing/), [RocketReach](https://enrich.chat/blog/rocketreach-pricing/), [SignalHire](https://enrich.chat/blog/signalhire-pricing/) and [ContactOut](https://enrich.chat/blog/contactout-pricing/) pricing, or the [best email finder tools](https://enrich.chat/blog/best-email-finder-tools/) and [best LinkedIn email finders](https://enrich.chat/blog/best-linkedin-email-finder/).

## How do you find contact information for a whole list?

Give your list to an AI agent and let it run one lookup per row. The agent reads the instructions at enrich.chat/agents.md, calls the API, and returns a table with each contact, its status, and "not found" for the misses. The free tier needs no key.

```text
Use www.enrich.chat to list the heads of sales at acme.com and get each person's work email with its status. Mark anyone with no match as not found, and give me the total credits_used.
```

**Figure 3: One prompt, two calls, a status for every contact.** A prompt asks Enrich.chat for the heads of sales at acme.com and each work email with its status. Enrich.chat makes two calls: the people endpoint lists the people, and the person endpoint returns each contact. The agent then reports each result as verified, catch-all, unknown or not found, and a lookup with no match uses 0 credits.

*An agent lists the people at a company, then looks up each one and reports a status. The statuses come from Enrich.chat's agent documentation, described in our [guide for AI agents](https://enrich.chat/agents/).*

Under the hood, the agent makes two kinds of call. The first lists people at the domain by title. The second looks up one person by LinkedIn URL and asks only for the work email:

```
GET https://enrich.chat/v1/company/people?domain=acme.com&title=head%20of%20sales
GET https://enrich.chat/v1/person?linkedin_url=linkedin.com/in/jane-doe
    &fields=email
{"found": true, "name": "Jane Doe", "title": "Head of Sales",
 "work_email": {"value": "jane.doe@acme.com", "status": "verified"},
 "credits_used": 10, "free_lookups_remaining": 9}
```

A work email found uses 10 credits, each person the people endpoint lists uses 5, and a lookup that finds nothing uses 0. Listing 100 people and getting a work email for each uses 1,500 credits, which fits the Growth plan at $29 a month. The free tier gives 10 lookups a day per IP address with no signup. Every plan includes unlimited seats, and the [pricing page](https://enrich.chat/pricing/) lists them all. To connect an assistant once instead of pasting a prompt, add the MCP server at https://enrich.chat/mcp, which needs no key. The [agents page](https://enrich.chat/agents/) has the steps, and the [LinkedIn URL to contact API](https://enrich.chat/api/linkedin-to-contact/) page has the full request.

## How do you check a contact before you use it?

Read the status on every field and treat each result as a strong lead, not a guarantee. An email comes back as `verified`, `catch_all` or `unknown`. A catch_all domain accepts every address, so the mailbox cannot be confirmed. The [catch-all checker](https://enrich.chat/tools/catch-all-checker/) tests a domain.

A mobile comes back with a line type of `mobile` or `unknown`. That is the number's type, not proof of who holds it today. Contacts also go stale: the median US wage and salary worker had been with their employer for [4.1 years in January 2026](https://www.bls.gov/news.release/tenure.nr0.htm), so an old address may belong to someone who left. Our guide to [how fast B2B contact data goes bad](https://enrich.chat/blog/b2b-data-decay/) covers the rate.

## What can you do when you cannot find the contact you need?

Use a channel the company already gave you. Call the main line and ask for the person or the department by name. Use the contact form and say who you want to reach and why. Ask a mutual contact for an introduction, or send a short LinkedIn connection note.

Skip the fast shortcuts, such as guessing many addresses at once or buying a list. Our guides to [finding someone's email](https://enrich.chat/blog/how-to-find-someones-email/) and [buying email lists](https://enrich.chat/blog/buying-email-lists/) explain how they backfire. A slower route that reaches the right inbox beats a fast one that does not.

## Is it legal to use the contact information you find?

Finding a published business contact is one thing, and contacting the person is regulated. The rules depend on the channel and the country. This is a summary of US and UK guidance, not legal advice, and using any lookup tool does not make your outreach compliant.

| Channel | What the regulator says |
| --- | --- |
| Email, US | The [FTC says](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business) CAN-SPAM has no business-to-business exception. Each message needs honest headers, a valid postal address and an opt-out you honor within 10 business days. Penalties go up to $53,088 per email. |
| Email, UK | The [ICO says](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/direct-marketing-and-privacy-and-electronic-communications/business-to-business-marketing/) the PECR rule on marketing email does not apply to corporate subscribers. Sole traders and some partnerships count as individuals, and UK GDPR still applies to named people. |
| Office line, US | The [FTC says](https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/national-do-not-call-registry-faqs) the Do Not Call Registry is for personal numbers, and business numbers are not covered. |
| Mobile, US | The [FCC requires](https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/stop-unwanted-robocalls-and-texts) consent before an autodialed or prerecorded call or text to a wireless number. Commercial texts need written consent. A mobile found for a business contact may be a personal phone. |

Our guides to [TCPA and B2B cold calling](https://enrich.chat/blog/tcpa-b2b-cold-calling/) and [buying email lists](https://enrich.chat/blog/buying-email-lists/) go further. You are responsible for the laws that apply to your outreach, wherever a contact came from. Anyone can remove their details from Enrich.chat on the [opt-out page](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/), and requests are processed within 15 days.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I find a company's contact information for free?

Open the company's website and check the Contact, About and Press pages and the footer. Then try Google Business Profile for local businesses, the SEC's EDGAR system for US public companies, and the company register, such as [Companies House](https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/) in the UK. These routes give a main line and an address, not a named person's direct line. For a named person, use a team page, an email finder or a LinkedIn lookup.

### How do I find someone's professional contact information from their name?

You need their employer's website too. Check the company's team page, then apply the company's email format or run the name and domain through the [email finder](https://enrich.chat/tools/email-finder/) and read the status. If you only have a name, find the employer first, for example from a LinkedIn profile or a conference page. Our guide to [finding someone's work email](https://enrich.chat/blog/how-to-find-someones-email/) covers eight methods.

### How do I find contact information from a LinkedIn profile?

Open the profile and select Contact info. LinkedIn shows that section [only to 1st-degree connections](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a545600/what-people-can-see-on-your-profile), and only what the member added. If you are not connected, paste the profile URL into the [LinkedIn email and phone finder](https://enrich.chat/tools/linkedin-email-finder/). It never logs in to LinkedIn, and it returns a work email and mobile with a status.

### What is the best tool to find contact information?

It depends on the job. Hunter, RocketReach, SignalHire, ContactOut and Voila Norbert all have free allowances and browser extensions. Enrich.chat suits AI agents and apps: 10 lookups a day with no signup, a work email with a status, and a mobile with its line type. Our [best email finder tools](https://enrich.chat/blog/best-email-finder-tools/) page compares plans and trade-offs.

### Can ChatGPT or Claude find contact information?

Not on their own, because a chat assistant has no contact database and can only guess a pattern. Give it a data source and it can look contacts up. Paste a prompt that starts with www.enrich.chat, and the agent reads enrich.chat/agents.md, calls the API and reports each result with its status, or "not found". See [what ChatGPT can and cannot do with email addresses](https://enrich.chat/blog/can-chatgpt-find-email-addresses/).

### Can I find contact information for a private person?

This guide covers professional contact details only. For a private person, ask them directly or through a mutual contact instead of a people-search site. Anyone can ask Enrich.chat to remove their details on the [opt-out page](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/), and requests are processed within 15 days. If you are unsure whether a contact is professional or personal, treat it as personal and ask first.
