# How to find the employees of a company, and who works there

No public source lists every employee. Here are six routes that name people, what each one leaves out, and how an API turns a company website into names, titles and work emails.

By Enrich.chat Editorial. Updated October 19, 2026.

**Short answer:** To find the employees of a company, read its team, press and speaker pages, check the public filings that name officers, and search LinkedIn by hand within its rules. No route returns everyone. For a repeatable list, [Enrich.chat's company people endpoint](https://enrich.chat/api/company-enrichment/) returns 25 people per page from a company website, with a cursor for the next page.

## Key takeaways

- No public source lists every employee. A company site shows who it chose to publish, a filing names officers and directors, and a LinkedIn Page lists only members who added the company.
- LinkedIn documents its limits. A Page shows associated members only, a monthly commercial use limit counts profile views from the People tab and shows no number, and scraping tools and extensions are not permitted.
- Alumni and association directories are for members. George Washington University and the Council on Foundations bar solicitation and commercial lists in their directory terms.
- Enrich.chat's `GET /v1/company/people` and `GET /v1/search` return up to 25 people per page from a company website, with a cursor for the next page, at 5 credits a person. `/v1/person` then adds a work email with a status for 10 credits.
- A named person's work email is personal data under UK GDPR, and the FTC says CAN-SPAM has no business-to-business exception. Check the rules before you send.

## How do you find the employees of a company?

Use several routes, because no single one lists everyone. A company's own pages name the people it chose to publish. Public filings name its officers. LinkedIn lists the members who added the company to their profile. An API turns a company website into a list you can repeat.

The question "who works at a company" can mean two things. If you work there, the intranet directory is the answer, and [HR Cloud](https://www.hrcloud.com/resources/glossary/employee-directory), a software vendor, advises role-based access to such directories. If you do not work there, you need the public routes in the table.

| Route | Who it names | Main limit |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1. Company website | People the company chose to publish, with titles | Says nothing about who it left out |
| 2. Press releases and speaker lists | Spokespeople, executives and event speakers | Skews to senior and public-facing people |
| 3. Filings and registers | Officers and directors, and some key staff at nonprofits | Few names below the top |
| 4. LinkedIn, by hand | Members who list the company | A monthly search limit with no number, and no scraping tools |
| 5. Alumni and association directories | Members of that group | Members only, and solicitation is usually barred |
| 6. An API by company website | 25 people per page, by title and seniority | Not every employee, and no org chart |

Start with the cheapest routes and stop when you have the roles you need. For a deal, find the economic buyer and a champion first, as in our [MEDDIC guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/meddic/). Our guides to [decision makers in a company](https://enrich.chat/blog/decision-makers-in-a-company/) and the [company org chart](https://enrich.chat/blog/company-org-chart/) cover roles and reporting lines, which none of these routes supply.

## What do a company's website, press releases and speaker lists show?

They show the people the company chose to put in front of the public, usually leaders, spokespeople and speakers. The names come with titles from the company itself, so read these first.

- **Team, about and leadership pages.** Check the menu and footer, then use Google's operators. [Google's search help](https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433) says `site:` limits results to one site, with no space after the colon, and quotes match an exact phrase. Try `site:example.com leadership` or `site:example.com "our team"` to find pages the menu hides. Run the same search on the blog and webinar pages, where bylines and hosts are staff names.
- **Press releases.** [PR Newswire's template guide](https://www.prnewswire.com/resources/articles/press-release-templates/) tells companies to include the name, phone number and email address of a media contact, so a release often ends with a named person. It adds that some organizations leave the contact out.
- **Conference and webinar speaker lists.** The [B2B Ignite 2026 speakers page](https://events.b2bmarketing.net/b2bignite/speakers) shows the usual format: each entry gives a speaker's name, company and job title. Speaker lists are good for senior people and for topics a company wants to be known for.
- **Archived pages.** The Internet Archive's [Wayback Machine](https://help.archive.org/help/using-the-wayback-machine/) lets you enter a domain, press Browse History and pick a saved date. An old team page shows who worked there then, which helps when a company has closed. It does not show who works there now.

Treat every name as a lead until a second source agrees. Titles change faster than pages do, and our [data decay guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/b2b-data-decay/) explains why. For the phone and email details a team page may list, see [how to find contact information](https://enrich.chat/blog/find-contact-information/).

## Which public filings and registers name a company's people?

It depends on the kind of company. Public companies, companies that raised money privately, nonprofits and UK companies each file a record that names some of their people. Figure 1 maps them.

**Figure 1: Which public record names people at which kind of company.** Four cards. A US public company files a Form 10-K and proxy statement that name executive officers and directors, and leave out managers and staff. A company that raised money privately files a Form D that names officers, directors and promoters, and leaves out all other companies. A US nonprofit files a Form 990, Part VII, that names officers, key employees and top-paid staff, and leaves out most other staff. A UK company has Companies House officers, which name current and past directors and leave out staff below the board. A bar at the bottom says that any company has a team page, press releases, speaker lists and a LinkedIn Page.

*The public record that names people depends on the kind of company. Sources: [SEC Item 401](https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/17/229.401), [SEC Form D](https://www.sec.gov/files/formd.pdf), [IRS Form 990](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f990.pdf), [GOV.UK](https://www.gov.uk/get-information-about-a-company).*

**A US public company.** [Item 401 of Regulation S-K](https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/17/229.401) asks for the names and ages of executive officers and directors, with their positions and terms. [The SEC's guide to reading a 10-K](https://www.sec.gov/answers/reada10k.htm) says most companies give the background of directors and executive officers in a separate proxy statement. Our guide to [finding a CEO's email address](https://enrich.chat/blog/find-ceo-email/) shows how to read these filings.

**A private company that raised money.** A company that sells securities under Regulation D files [Form D](https://www.sec.gov/files/formd.pdf). Item 3 lists related persons by name, and each is marked executive officer, director or promoter. [The SEC says](https://www.sec.gov/resources-small-businesses/capital-raising-building-blocks/what-form-d) a company's Form D is publicly available on EDGAR.

**A US nonprofit.** [Part VII of Form 990](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f990.pdf) lists current officers, directors and trustees, current key employees, and the five highest paid employees above $100,000 in reportable pay. The [IRS instructions](https://www.irs.gov/instructions/i990) say a completed Form 990 is generally available for public inspection.

**A UK company.** [GOV.UK says](https://www.gov.uk/get-information-about-a-company) the free Companies House service shows a company's officers, including current and resigned directors. The [officer list](https://developer-specs.company-information.service.gov.uk/companies-house-public-data-api/resources/officerlist?v=latest) carries each officer's name, role and appointment date.

These records name leaders, not teams. A 10-K does not name the manager who would run your evaluation. Our guide to [decision makers in a company](https://enrich.chat/blog/decision-makers-in-a-company/) covers how to find that person.

## How can you find employees on LinkedIn without breaking its rules?

Do it by hand: open the company's Page, use the People tab, and search People with the Current company filter. LinkedIn documents limits on each step, and it does not permit scraping tools or browser extensions.

- **The People tab.** [LinkedIn Help](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a550270) says the tab only appears if the Page has employees associated with it. [Members appear](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a541828) when they pick the company in the Experience section of their profile, and only current members are listed. The count can take up to 30 days to update. Staff who are not on LinkedIn, or who do not list the company, are missing.
- **People search.** [LinkedIn's search help](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a525054) says to pick the People filter and open All filters, where Current company is one option. It adds that results are always approximate, and that for members who are not your connections the actions you see depend on their profile settings.
- **Result caps.** In Sales Navigator, [a search shows up to 2,500 lead results](https://www.linkedin.com/help/sales-navigator/answer/a106030) across 100 pages.
- **The commercial use limit.** LinkedIn says accounts whose activity looks like hiring or prospecting get a [monthly cap on profile searches and views](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a564226). It counts profile views from a Page's People tab, shows no number, and resets at midnight PST on the first of each month. A long manual session can reach it.
- **Tools.** LinkedIn says [third-party software, including bots and browser extensions that scrape or automate its site](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1341387), is not permitted, and members who use it risk restricted or closed accounts. Do not run a scraper or hand your login to a tool.

Our [LinkedIn prospecting guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/linkedin-prospecting/) covers saved searches and first messages inside these rules. Enrich.chat never logs in to LinkedIn and never uses your account. A LinkedIn URL is only a lookup key, as the [guide to finding email on LinkedIn](https://enrich.chat/blog/find-email-on-linkedin/) explains.

## Are alumni and association directories worth checking?

Sometimes, to find one person. They are not a source for outreach lists, because they are for members and their terms usually bar solicitation.

[George Washington University's alumni directory](https://alumni.gwu.edu/node/40) is password protected for registered alumni. It limits use to personal and university-related purposes and bars solicitations of any kind, cold-calling and commercial mass mailings. [Cornell's directory terms](https://cornellconnect.cornell.edu/terms.html) bar commercial, promotional and political use and cold-calling. Associations follow the same pattern. The [Council on Foundations' policy](https://cof.org/content/member-directory-policy-appropriate-use) encourages networking but says its directory may not be used to generate mailing, email or phone lists for commercial purposes.

Read a directory's terms before you use it. A directory can show that a person works at a company and give you a reason to ask for an introduction. Terms differ, and each directory's own page is the final word.

## How many employees does a company have, and how complete can your list be?

Headcount comes from different places for different companies, and a list built from public sources is almost always shorter than the real staff.

- **A US public company states it.** [Item 101(c)(2)(ii) of Regulation S-K](https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/17/229.101) requires a description of human capital resources, including the number of persons employed.
- **A LinkedIn Page counts associated members.** That is members who list the company, so it misses staff who are not on LinkedIn or do not list the employer.
- **A data API can return a size band or headcount from a website.** Enrich.chat's `GET /v1/company?domain=` returns name, industry, a size band, `employees_on_linkedin` (a signal for size, not an exact headcount), state and country, and uses 5 credits when it finds the company.

Compare your list with the headcount. If a company has 800 staff and you found 60 names, you found the visible ones, mostly leaders and public-facing roles. That is normal. Decide which role, team or level you need, and search for that instead of chasing a full roster.

## How do you turn a name into a work email lawfully?

Get the address from a source you can name, read its status, and follow the sender rules that apply to you before you write. Finding an address is one step. Using it is regulated.

**Figure 2: From a name to a work email you can use.** Four steps. One, check what is published: team page, bylines, press contacts and talk slides. Two, look it up with GET /v1/person using a name plus a company website or a LinkedIn URL, which uses 10 credits per work email found. Three, read the status: verified, catch_all or unknown, which is a label and not a delivery guarantee. Four, check the rules before you send: CAN-SPAM needs a postal address and an opt-out, and UK and EU rules require a privacy notice and respect the right to object.

*Four steps from a name to an address you can use. A status is a label, not a delivery guarantee. Sources: [Enrich.chat's agents.md](https://enrich.chat/agents.md), [FTC](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business), [ICO](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/direct-marketing-and-privacy-and-electronic-communications/business-to-business-marketing/).*

1. **Look for a published address.** Bylines, press contacts and speaker bios sometimes give one, as in the website section above. An address the person or company published beats a guess.
2. **Treat the email format as a lead, not a fact.** Our [guide to business email formats](https://enrich.chat/blog/email-address-formats/) lists the common patterns, and the [email format finder](https://enrich.chat/tools/email-format-finder/) shows a company's likely pattern. A pattern stays a guess until a lookup returns a status for the address.
3. **Look it up.** Send the name and company website, or the person's LinkedIn URL, to a lookup such as the [email finder](https://enrich.chat/tools/email-finder/) or Enrich.chat's `/v1/person`. Each found work email comes back with a status label: verified, catch_all or unknown. A label is not a delivery guarantee. See [what a catch-all email is](https://enrich.chat/blog/what-is-a-catch-all-email/).
4. **Check the rules before you send.** The table summarizes the regulators' own words.

| Where | What the regulator or the text says |
| --- | --- |
| US, email | The [FTC's CAN-SPAM guide](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business) says the law makes no exception for business-to-business email. A message must carry your valid physical postal address, and you must honor an opt-out within 10 business days. |
| UK, email | The [ICO says](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/direct-marketing-and-privacy-and-electronic-communications/business-to-business-marketing/) PECR's marketing email rule does not apply to corporate subscribers, but sole traders and some partnerships count as individuals. It also says a work email that identifies a person is personal data under UK GDPR. The page notes the guidance is under review after the Data (Use and Access) Act. |
| UK, privacy notice | If you get a person's data from a source other than the person, the [ICO says](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/uk-gdpr-guidance-and-resources/individual-rights/the-right-to-be-informed/) to give privacy information within a reasonable period and no later than one month. |
| EU, notice and objection | [Article 14 of the GDPR](https://gdpr-info.eu/art-14-gdpr/) sets the same one-month limit, or the first contact if you use the data to write to the person. [Article 21](https://gdpr-info.eu/art-21-gdpr/) lets people object to direct marketing at any time, and the data may then no longer be used for it. |

This is general information, not legal advice. Using any lookup tool does not make your outreach compliant, and you are responsible for the laws that apply to you. Anyone can ask to be removed from Enrich.chat at [enrich.chat/opt-out/](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/), and requests are processed within 15 days. For calls and texts to a mobile, see [TCPA and B2B cold calling](https://enrich.chat/blog/tcpa-b2b-cold-calling/).

## How can an AI agent list the people at a company with Enrich.chat?

Give your agent the company's website and the roles you want. Enrich.chat's `GET /v1/company/people` and `GET /v1/search` return up to 25 people per page with name, title and LinkedIn URL, and a `next_cursor` for the next page. `GET /v1/person` then adds a work email with a status.

Enrich.chat is contact and company data for AI agents and apps. Your agent reads [enrich.chat/agents.md](https://enrich.chat/agents.md) once, or you add the MCP server at `https://enrich.chat/mcp`, which has company_people, search_people and find_work_email tools. The [install page](https://enrich.chat/install/) has steps for ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and more. The free tier needs no key.

| Call | You send | You get |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `GET /v1/company` | `domain`, a company website, or a `linkedin_url` or `company_id` | Name, industry, size band, revenue band, founded year, state and country |
| `GET /v1/company/people` | `domain`, plus `title`, `seniority`, `limit` (1 to 25), `cursor` and `with_email` | Up to 25 people a page: id, name, title, company, LinkedIn URL |
| `GET /v1/search` | `company_domain` and `title`, `seniority` or a plain English `q` | The same fields, for up to 25 people a page, with `next_cursor` |
| `GET /v1/person` | `linkedin_url`, or `name` plus a company website, with `fields=email` | A work email with a status of verified, catch_all or unknown |

Use `/v1/company/people` for one company. Use `/v1/search` when you also filter by industry, country, state or company size. `seniority` takes c_suite, founder, owner, vp, head, director or manager. See the [company enrichment API](https://enrich.chat/api/company-enrichment/), [people search API](https://enrich.chat/api/people-search/) and [person enrichment API](https://enrich.chat/api/person-enrichment/) pages for every field.

```text
Use www.enrich.chat to list the directors at example.com in finance, operations and IT, up to 25 people in total. Show name, title and LinkedIn URL. Then get the work email and its status for the three most senior, mark anyone not found, and tell me the total credits_used.
```

### What does a worked example look like?

The company, the people and the emails below are made up, on example.com. Step one lists three directors:

```
GET https://enrich.chat/v1/company/people
  ?domain=example.com
  &seniority=director
  &limit=3
{
  "found": true,
  "count": 3,
  "domain": "example.com",
  "people": [
    {"id": "per_8Nf2kQ3xLm4RtVwZ", "name": "Imogen Falk",
     "title": "Director of Finance", "company": "Northgate Pumps",
     "level": "director", "has_email": true, "has_mobile": false,
     "linkedin_url": "https://www.linkedin.com/in/imogen-falk-example"},
    {"id": "per_3Tz9wPd6YcB1HsJe", "name": "Rahul Desrosiers",
     "title": "Director of Operations", "company": "Northgate Pumps",
     "level": "director", "has_email": true, "has_mobile": true,
     "linkedin_url": "https://www.linkedin.com/in/rahul-desrosiers-example"},
    {"id": "per_6Gh4uVn8KaQ2XrMc", "name": "Tessa Okonkwo",
     "title": "Director of IT", "company": "Northgate Pumps",
     "level": "director", "has_email": false, "has_mobile": false,
     "linkedin_url": "https://www.linkedin.com/in/tessa-okonkwo-example"}
  ],
  "total_matches": 7,
  "next_cursor": "eyJyIjozfQ",
  "credits_used": 15,
  "free_lookups_remaining": 9
}
```

Step two sends the first person's LinkedIn URL to `/v1/person` and asks only for the email. You can send the name and website instead: `name=Imogen%20Falk&company=example.com`. The `id` from step one also works, as `person_id`.

```
GET https://enrich.chat/v1/person
  ?linkedin_url=linkedin.com/in/imogen-falk-example
  &fields=email
{
  "found": true,
  "name": "Imogen Falk",
  "title": "Director of Finance",
  "company": {"name": "Northgate Pumps"},
  "work_email": {"value": "imogen.falk@example.com", "status": "verified"},
  "credits_used": 10,
  "free_lookups_remaining": 8
}
```

Add `with_email=true` to a people call to keep only people who come back with a work email. In that list the status reads unknown. Send the person to `/v1/person` for the label. Treat every result as a strong lead, not a guarantee, and pace calls at about one request a second.

Past 25 people, page on with the cursor. Pass the `next_cursor` from one response back as `cursor` to get the next page. A search can be paged 40 times, which is 1,000 people. To go deeper, slice the search by function or level, such as finance, operations, IT, sales and marketing, then drop repeats by `linkedin_url`. A person who appears in two slices is returned, and billed, twice.

### How do you get a first look for free?

The free [lead list builder](https://enrich.chat/tools/lead-list-builder/) runs one search from a sentence, such as "directors of finance and operations at example.com". It shows names, titles and companies and keeps contact details hidden. Each search uses 1 of the 10 free lookups shared across the website tools, with no signup. Through the API, each IP address gets 10 free lookups a day, and one search counts as one lookup however many people it returns.

### What does it cost to list a company's people?

A person returned by a company people or search call uses 5 credits, so a full page of 25 uses 125. A work email found uses 10. A lookup that finds nothing uses 0 credits. Figure 3 prices three jobs, and the table gives the formulas.

**Figure 3: Credits for three people-listing jobs.** Three cards. One company: 4 calls of 10 people and 12 work emails use 320 credits and fit the Growth plan at $29 a month. 200 companies: 200 calls of 25 people and 1,000 emails use 35,000 credits and fit the Growth plan at $29 a month. 1,000 companies: 1,000 calls of 25 people and 10,000 emails use 225,000 credits and fit the Scale plan at $90 a month. Each card shows a bar split between people credits and email credits.

*Illustrative maths with Enrich.chat's public credit rates. Orange is people credits and the lighter bar is work email credits. A person with no email found uses 0 credits for it, so real totals can be lower. Source: [Enrich.chat pricing](https://enrich.chat/pricing/).*

| Job | Formula | Credits |
| --- | --- | --- |
| One company | 40 people + 12 work emails | 320 |
| 200 companies | 200 x 25 people + 1,000 work emails | 35,000 |
| 1,000 companies | 1,000 x 25 people + 10,000 work emails | 225,000 |

Plans bill monthly with unlimited seats and no annual contract: Growth $29 for 100,000 credits, Scale $90 for 500,000 credits, Pro $299 for 2,500,000 credits. Credits renew with each monthly payment and do not roll over. Every matched response shows its cost in `credits_used`. The [pricing page](https://enrich.chat/pricing/) has a calculator.

### What does Enrich.chat not do for this job?

- **It does not return every employee.** A page holds up to 25 people and a search stops at 1,000, and not every employee at a company is returned. It finds people by role, not a full roster.
- **It has no org chart.** There are no reporting lines or role labels. See the [company org chart guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/company-org-chart/) for how to record them.
- **Limits on lists and jobs.** The dashboard saves people to [lists](https://enrich.chat/features/lists-and-export/) with a tag and a note, shares them with everyone in your [team workspace](https://enrich.chat/features/team-workspaces/), and exports them as CSV or Excel. A [background job](https://enrich.chat/features/background-jobs/) keeps running after you close the tab, but it holds at most 5,000 rows and keeps its results 30 days, and Enterprise adds bulk files. The free list builder runs one search at a time.
- **It takes a website, not a company name.** A company lookup takes a website, a LinkedIn company page or a company ID, and company names alone are not supported yet. A name plus a company website works on `/v1/person`, and personal mailboxes such as Gmail are not looked up.
- **Other gaps.** There is no sequencing, dialer, intent data, Chrome extension, CRM sync or SSO. A mobile adds 250 credits. SDKs are planned, and plain HTTPS works today.
- **A list is a snapshot.** People move jobs, so run the lookup again before each campaign.

### When is another route the better choice?

If you need a full roster for a company you already work with, ask its HR team. If you need pages of more than 25 results, Apollo, People Data Labs, ZoomInfo, Lusha and RocketReach each return up to 100 per page, as the comparison in our [people search API](https://enrich.chat/api/people-search/) page shows. If you need reporting lines drawn for many accounts, start with the [company org chart guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/company-org-chart/). Enrich.chat fits when you have a company website, want people by role, and want the work email with a status from the same agent. To choose which accounts to list first, build an [ideal customer profile](https://enrich.chat/blog/ideal-customer-profile/).

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I find out who works at a company?

Start with the company's own team, leadership and press pages, then use Google's site: operator to find names the menu hides. Add filings that name officers, such as a US Form 10-K or a UK Companies House officer list, and check the Page's People tab on LinkedIn by hand. No route lists everyone. For a repeatable list from a website, see the [company people endpoint](https://enrich.chat/api/company-enrichment/).

### Can you get a full list of a company's employees?

Not from public sources. A company site shows the people it chose to publish, filings name officers and directors, and LinkedIn's People tab lists only members who added the company, a count that [LinkedIn says](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a541828) can take up to 30 days to update. Only the employer holds a full roster, in an internal directory with role-based access. Aim for the roles you need, not everyone.

### Does LinkedIn allow tools that list a company's employees?

[LinkedIn says](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1341387) it does not permit third-party software, including bots and browser extensions, that scrapes or automates its site, and members who use them risk restricted or closed accounts. Search by hand and use the People tab. Enrich.chat never logs in to LinkedIn and uses a profile URL only as a lookup key. See our [LinkedIn prospecting guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/linkedin-prospecting/).

### How can I find out how many employees a business has?

A US public company states it: [Regulation S-K Item 101](https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/17/229.101) requires the number of persons employed. For other companies, check the LinkedIn Page, which counts only members who list the company, or use a data API. Enrich.chat's `/v1/company?domain=` returns a size band and `employees_on_linkedin`, a signal for size and not an exact headcount, plus industry and location, using 5 credits when it finds the company.

### How do I get work emails for a company's employees?

Find the names first, then look up each person. With Enrich.chat, send a name plus the company website, or a LinkedIn URL, to `/v1/person`. Each found work email comes back with a status of verified, catch_all or unknown and uses 10 credits. A lookup that finds nothing uses 0. A status is a label, not a delivery guarantee. See [how to find someone's work email](https://enrich.chat/blog/how-to-find-someones-email/).

### Is it legal to email employees whose names you found?

It depends on where they are, and this is not legal advice. The [FTC says](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business) CAN-SPAM makes no exception for business-to-business email. The [ICO says](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/direct-marketing-and-privacy-and-electronic-communications/business-to-business-marketing/) UK GDPR applies when a work email identifies a person.
