# LinkedIn MCP servers in 2026: what is official, what puts your account at risk, and a no-login alternative

LinkedIn has no public MCP server. We checked the GitHub projects, the hosted services and LinkedIn's own APIs, explain the account and legal risk, and show how to set up a server in Claude if you still want one.

By Enrich.chat Editorial. Updated October 15, 2026.

**Short answer:** No. LinkedIn publishes no MCP server you can add to Claude, Cursor or other clients. The only official LinkedIn connectors we found are two [ChatGPT plugins](https://openai.com/business/plugins/linkedin/) for profile lookups and ad reports. Popular GitHub servers such as stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server run inside your own logged-in session, the kind of automation [LinkedIn's User Agreement](https://www.linkedin.com/legal/user-agreement) bans. For contact data without a LinkedIn login, Enrich.chat takes the profile URL as a lookup key.

## Key takeaways

- LinkedIn publishes no MCP server for Claude or other clients. Its only official connectors we found are two ChatGPT plugins: a profile lookup and a read-only LinkedIn Ads beta.
- The most-starred GitHub server, stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server, had 3,875 stars on October 15, 2026 and works through your own logged-in browser session.
- Section 8.2 of LinkedIn's User Agreement bans scraping software and unauthorized bots, and LinkedIn says accounts that use them risk restriction or shutdown.
- LinkedIn's open APIs cover only your own profile and posting. Its Marketing API rules bar using member data to find prospects or enrich a CRM.
- Enrich.chat never logs in to LinkedIn: send a profile URL, get a work email and a mobile, each with a status, with 10 free lookups a day.

## Is there an official LinkedIn MCP server?

No. As of October 15, 2026, LinkedIn publishes no MCP server that you can add to Claude, Cursor or any other MCP client. The [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/getting-started/intro) is an open standard for connecting AI apps to outside tools, and many companies now ship a server for it. LinkedIn is not one of them. We checked four places:

- **LinkedIn's developer docs.** The [Getting Access page on Microsoft Learn](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/shared/authentication/getting-access) lists LinkedIn's OAuth permissions and partner programs. It lists no MCP server.
- **The official MCP Registry.** A [registry search for "linkedin"](https://registry.modelcontextprotocol.io/v0/servers?search=linkedin&limit=100) returned 46 servers, all from third parties. Microsoft does publish servers there under its own `com.microsoft` name, for [Azure, Microsoft Learn, Fabric, NuGet and Power BI](https://registry.modelcontextprotocol.io/v0/servers?search=microsoft&limit=100), but none for LinkedIn.
- **Anthropic's connector directory.** [Claude's directory](https://claude.com/connectors) lists connectors for Microsoft 365, Microsoft Learn, Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Dataverse, but none for LinkedIn. The LinkedIn-related entries come from third parties, such as Taplio and Typefully for posts.
- **OpenAI's plugin directory.** This is the one place where LinkedIn has shipped something official.

OpenAI lists two plugins with LinkedIn as the developer. The [LinkedIn plugin](https://openai.com/business/plugins/linkedin/) lets you look up a professional and see their title, company, location and follower count, with a link to the full profile. The [LinkedIn Ads plugin](https://openai.com/business/plugins/linkedin-ads/) is a beta with read-only access to ad set performance. Both run in ChatGPT Work and Codex.

[OpenAI's developer docs](https://developers.openai.com/apps-sdk) say plugins are built with skills, MCP servers and optional UI. That makes these two plugins the closest thing to an official LinkedIn MCP. Still, LinkedIn has not published a server you can point another client at, and neither listing mentions email addresses or phone numbers.

Everything else called a "LinkedIn MCP server" is third-party code. The most popular project says so in its [README](https://github.com/stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server): it is an independent project, not affiliated with LinkedIn or Microsoft.

## What can LinkedIn's official APIs do for an AI agent?

LinkedIn's official APIs can tell an agent who you are and post for you. They cannot look up prospects. LinkedIn's API uses OAuth 2.0, and [Microsoft Learn](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/shared/authentication/getting-access) says most permissions and partner programs need LinkedIn's explicit approval. Only the first two products below are open to every developer.

| LinkedIn product | Permission | What an app gets | Access |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Sign In with LinkedIn using OpenID Connect | `openid`, `profile`, `email` | The signed-in member's own name, photo and primary email | Open to all |
| Share on LinkedIn | `w_member_social` | Post, comment and like as the signed-in member | Open to all |
| Advertising API | Marketing permissions | Ad accounts, campaigns and reporting | Partner approval |
| Community Management API | Page and member social permissions | Company pages, posts, comments and analytics | Vetted: Development tier, then Standard |
| Sales Navigator Application Platform (SNAP) | `r_sales_nav_*` | Sales Navigator display, analytics and CRM validation | SNAP partners only |
| Talent and Learning | Program-specific | ATS, job posting and learning integrations | Partner application |
| Compliance | `r_compliance`, `w_compliance` | Activity archiving and monitoring | Closed |

The open permissions are about the person who signs in. [Sign In with LinkedIn using OpenID Connect](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/consumer/integrations/self-serve/sign-in-with-linkedin-v2) returns that member's name, picture, locale and, when available, primary email. None of the open products searches for people or returns another member's contact details. If you want better LinkedIn search for yourself, that is a paid Sales Navigator seat, covered in our [Sales Navigator pricing guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/linkedin-sales-navigator-pricing/).

Partner access comes with tight rules. LinkedIn's page on [restricted uses of Marketing APIs](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/marketing/restricted-use-cases) says member data should not be used for sales or recruiting. That includes finding prospects, creating leads and enhancing customer data in a CRM. Member data can't be combined with other data to build lead records, and most profile data can be stored for only 24 hours. The [Community Management API](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/marketing/community-management/community-management-overview) is a vetted product: you start on a Development tier and apply for Standard with a screencast of each use case.

One more official route exists, for your own data only. Under the EU Digital Markets Act, the [Member Data Portability API](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/dma/member-data-portability/member-data-portability-member/) lets a member in the European Economic Area or Switzerland build an app that fetches their own LinkedIn data.

**Figure 1: What LinkedIn's official APIs open to developers.** LinkedIn's API access in three tiers. Open to all developers: Sign In with LinkedIn, which returns your own name, photo and email, and Share on LinkedIn, which posts as you. Partner approval: Advertising API, Community Management, the Sales Navigator Application Platform, and Talent and Learning. Closed: Compliance and member post data. LinkedIn's Marketing API rules bar using member data for prospecting, leads or CRM enrichment.

*The open tier covers only the member who signs in. Everything that touches other members needs partner approval and comes with use limits. Sources: [Getting Access to LinkedIn APIs](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/shared/authentication/getting-access), [Community Management overview](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/marketing/community-management/community-management-overview) and [Restricted Uses of Marketing APIs](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/marketing/restricted-use-cases), Microsoft Learn, checked October 15, 2026.*

So a server built on the official API can only do official things. [fredericbarthelet/linkedin-mcp-server](https://github.com/fredericbarthelet/linkedin-mcp-server), for example, uses the Community Management API and offers two tools: read your own user info and create a post. Some servers that ask only for a developer app's client ID and secret, such as [Dishant27/linkedin-mcp-server](https://github.com/Dishant27/linkedin-mcp-server), also list a people search tool. No open permission covers people search, so ask how such a tool gets its data before you rely on it.

## Which LinkedIn MCP servers are on GitHub?

The popular LinkedIn MCP servers on GitHub work through your own LinkedIn account, not the official API. We pulled the most-starred repositories from GitHub's API on October 15, 2026, and read each README. Star counts change daily.

| Repository | Stars | Last commit | License | How it signs in |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server](https://github.com/stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server) | 3,875 | Oct 14, 2026 | Apache-2.0 | Your browser session |
| [brightdata/brightdata-mcp](https://github.com/brightdata/brightdata-mcp) | 2,677 | Oct 14, 2026 | MIT | Bright Data API token |
| [eliasbiondo/linkedin-mcp-server](https://github.com/eliasbiondo/linkedin-mcp-server) | 195 | Mar 8, 2026 | MIT | Your browser session |
| [gtm-api/linkedin-mcp](https://github.com/gtm-api/linkedin-mcp) | 90 | Oct 14, 2026 | MIT | Hosted, runs your account |
| [Linked-API/linkedapi-mcp](https://github.com/Linked-API/linkedapi-mcp) | 70 | Oct 12, 2026 | MIT | Hosted, runs your account |
| [bcharleson/linkedincli](https://github.com/bcharleson/linkedincli) | 69 | Aug 22, 2026 | MIT | Your session cookies |
| [Dishant27/linkedin-mcp-server](https://github.com/Dishant27/linkedin-mcp-server) | 53 | Apr 6, 2025 | MIT | Developer app keys |
| [southleft/linkedin-mcp](https://github.com/southleft/linkedin-mcp) | 42 | Mar 25, 2026 | MIT | OAuth plus your cookies |
| [fredericbarthelet/linkedin-mcp-server](https://github.com/fredericbarthelet/linkedin-mcp-server) | 40 | Mar 19, 2025 | None listed | Official OAuth |

[stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server](https://github.com/stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server) is the clear leader. It has 20 tools, from `get_person_profile` and `search_people` to `send_message` and `connect_with_person`. It runs a Chromium browser on your computer. On the first call, it reuses a LinkedIn session from a signed-in browser on your machine, or it opens a LinkedIn login window. Its README is candid: LinkedIn's User Agreement prohibits automated access, accounts can be restricted or banned, and there is "no guarantee of account safety."

The other community servers follow the same pattern. [eliasbiondo/linkedin-mcp-server](https://github.com/eliasbiondo/linkedin-mcp-server) opens a browser for you to log in and saves the session. [bcharleson/linkedincli](https://github.com/bcharleson/linkedincli) uses your session cookies. [southleft/linkedin-mcp](https://github.com/southleft/linkedin-mcp) mixes both worlds: an official developer app for posts and analytics, and your browser cookies for messages, connections and search.

Some of these servers can read a profile's Contact info section, which can hold an email and a phone number. They see only what LinkedIn shows your account, and LinkedIn shows [Contact info to 1st-degree connections only](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a545600/what-people-can-see-on-your-profile). For a prospect you are not connected to, expect no email and no phone.

**Figure 2: How a community LinkedIn MCP server works, compared with a lookup API.** Two ways an AI agent gets LinkedIn data. A community LinkedIn MCP server runs on your computer and works through your own LinkedIn session or cookies, so every page view and message runs as your account. A lookup API takes the LinkedIn URL as a query parameter: the agent sends GET /v1/person to Enrich.chat and gets JSON back with a work email and a mobile, each with a status, with no LinkedIn login.

*A session-based server works inside your LinkedIn account. A lookup API takes the profile URL as a key and never logs in. The response shows example statuses. ## What hosted LinkedIn MCP options are there?

Hosted LinkedIn MCP servers skip the local install. Most of them either run your LinkedIn account in their cloud or collect public pages without one. Here is what each one says on its own site, checked October 15, 2026:

- **gtm-api.** A managed server at `mcp.gtm-api.com` that signs you in with OAuth. You connect a LinkedIn account you own, and its [pricing page](https://gtm-api.com/pricing) says accounts run through a cloud browser. The free plan covers one account, and paid plans cost $39 per account per month. Its [README](https://github.com/gtm-api/linkedin-mcp) lists profile, experience, skills, education and company data under enrichment, not emails.
- **Linked API.** Its [MCP server](https://github.com/Linked-API/linkedapi-mcp) controls your LinkedIn account through a cloud browser. [Pricing](https://linkedapi.io/pricing/) starts at $49 per seat per month, where one seat is one LinkedIn account, after a 7-day free trial.
- **Apify.** Apify's [LinkedIn MCP server page](https://apify.com/mcp/linkedin-mcp-server) runs the [dev_fusion LinkedIn Profile Scraper](https://apify.com/dev_fusion/linkedin-profile-scraper) through `mcp.apify.com`. That actor says it needs no LinkedIn cookies and returns email and mobile fields, at $10 per 1,000 results. Mobile lookups are for paying users only. Apify's [free plan](https://apify.com/pricing) includes $5 of usage a month.
- **Bright Data.** The [Bright Data MCP server](https://github.com/brightdata/brightdata-mcp) is hosted at `mcp.brightdata.com`. It covers LinkedIn profiles, companies, jobs, posts and people search, with 5,000 free requests a month. Bright Data's [LinkedIn Scraper page](https://brightdata.com/products/web-scraper/linkedin) says it collects only publicly available data, and it lists no email or phone fields.
- **Zapier.** [Zapier's LinkedIn MCP](https://zapier.com/mcp/linkedin) offers two write actions, Create Share Update and Create Company Update. It is for posting, not lookups.

The table at the top of this page scores each option on login, support, contact fields, free tier and setup. Enrich.chat is in the first column.

## Can LinkedIn restrict your account for using an MCP server?

Yes. [Section 8.2 of LinkedIn's User Agreement](https://www.linkedin.com/legal/user-agreement) bans software, scripts, robots, crawlers and browser plugins that scrape or copy profiles. It also bans bots and other unauthorized automated methods for accessing LinkedIn. Section 3.4 lets LinkedIn restrict, suspend or terminate an account that breaks the agreement. LinkedIn's help page on [prohibited software and extensions](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1341387) warns that members who use such tools risk having their accounts restricted or shut down.

A session-based MCP server is software that reads LinkedIn pages as you, so the account at risk is yours. Hosted services that log in as you raise one more question. Section 2.2 of the same agreement says you will not share your account with anyone else.

LinkedIn also goes to court. These cases targeted companies that sold LinkedIn data, not members, but they show how LinkedIn treats automated access:

- **Proxycurl.** LinkedIn [sued Nubela and Proxycurl on January 24, 2025](https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/69575588/linkedin-corporation-v-nubela-pte-ltd/). [The complaint](https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.443258/gov.uscourts.cand.443258.1.0.pdf) alleged a network of fake accounts that scraped member data while logged in. Proxycurl [shut down on July 4, 2025](https://nubela.co/blog/goodbye-proxycurl/), the court entered judgment on July 25, 2025, and [LinkedIn said](https://news.linkedin.com/2025/LinkedInWinsLegalBattleToProtectMemberData) it had resolved the case.
- **ProAPIs.** LinkedIn [sued ProAPIs on October 2, 2025](https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/71527603/linkedin-corporation-v-proapis-inc/). On September 16, 2026, ProAPIs consented to a [final judgment](https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.457309/gov.uscourts.cand.457309.36.0.pdf). It denied liability but is now permanently barred from scraping LinkedIn. The order also bars it from offering software that reaches LinkedIn in an automated way, including through other people's LinkedIn accounts.

**Figure 3: Risk ladder for your LinkedIn account.** A five-step risk ladder for your LinkedIn account. Highest risk: a local MCP server that runs in your own LinkedIn session, which section 8.2 of the User Agreement addresses. Next: hosted services that run your account in their cloud, which raises section 2.2 on account sharing. Then logged-out scraping platforms, where your account is unused but vendors face lawsuits. Then lookup APIs such as Enrich.chat that take a LinkedIn URL as a key and never log in. Lowest: LinkedIn's own APIs and apps, which are approved but return no contact data.

*Ranked by how much each route depends on your LinkedIn account, not by data quality. This is our reading of LinkedIn's rules, not legal advice. Sources: [LinkedIn User Agreement](https://www.linkedin.com/legal/user-agreement), [LinkedIn Help](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1341387) and the [ProAPIs consent judgment](https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.457309/gov.uscourts.cand.457309.36.0.pdf).*

This is not legal advice. Read the agreement yourself, and talk to your lawyer before you build a product on any of these routes. Our [Proxycurl alternatives guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/proxycurl-alternative/) covers the lawsuits and what they meant for API buyers.

## How do you add a LinkedIn MCP server to Claude Desktop?

You add a local MCP server by editing Claude Desktop's config file and restarting the app. The steps below follow the [MCP guide to local servers](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/develop/connect-local-servers) and work for any server, including a LinkedIn one. Read the warning first.

**Before you install a LinkedIn server:** a local MCP server runs with your computer account's permissions, and a session-based LinkedIn server also acts as your LinkedIn account. LinkedIn says members who use automation tools risk having their accounts restricted or shut down. Only continue if you accept that risk for the account you connect.

1. **Vet the server.** Read the README and the code. Check the license, the last commit date, and what the server does with your login or cookies.
2. **Install the runtime.** Many MCP servers need Node.js, and Python servers often run with uv.
3. **Open the config file.** In Claude Desktop, choose Settings from the Claude menu, open the Developer tab and click Edit Config. The file is `claude_desktop_config.json` in `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/` on a Mac or `%APPDATA%\Claude\` on Windows.
4. **Add the server.** Put an entry under `mcpServers` with the command and arguments from the server's README. The example below shows the shape.
5. **Restart Claude.** Save the file, quit Claude Desktop completely and open it again.
6. **Check the tools.** Click the add button at the bottom left of the message box, open Connectors, then Manage connectors, and select the server to see its tools.

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "linkedin": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["name-of-the-server-package"]
    }
  }
}
```

If the server does not show up, read the logs in `~/Library/Logs/Claude` on a Mac or `%APPDATA%\Claude\logs` on Windows. A file named after the server, such as `mcp-server-linkedin.log`, holds its error output.

Hosted servers use a URL instead of a config entry. In Claude, go to Customize, then Connectors, click Add and choose Add custom connector, then paste the server URL. [Anthropic's help center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11175166-getting-started-with-custom-connectors-using-remote-mcp) warns that custom connectors reach services Anthropic has not verified, and that malicious servers may include hidden instructions. It also advises care with "Allow always", so keep tools that send messages or connection requests on approval. The MCP project's [security best practices](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/tutorials/security/security_best_practices) add that a malicious local server can run any command with the client's privileges.

## How do you get contact data from a LinkedIn URL without logging in?

Send the profile URL to an enrichment API as a lookup key. With Enrich.chat, you add its hosted MCP server at `https://enrich.chat/mcp` (steps on the [install page](https://enrich.chat/install/)), or your agent reads one page of instructions and then calls a plain HTTPS API. It never logs in to LinkedIn and never uses your LinkedIn account. The server needs no key and no sign-in, nothing runs on your computer, and you get 10 free lookups a day.

```text
Use www.enrich.chat to get the work email and mobile for linkedin.com/in/jane-doe-ops. Show the status of each field and only report what the API returns.
```

The agent reads [enrich.chat/agents.md](https://enrich.chat/agents.md) and sends one request per profile: `GET /v1/person?linkedin_url=...&fields=email,mobile`. The response includes the person's name, title and company, plus two checked fields:

- `work_email.status` is verified, catch_all or unknown. Catch-all domains are flagged.
- `mobile.line` is mobile or unknown. That is the number's type, not a live-line check, and it does not show the number belongs to the person.

If nothing matches, the API returns `"found": false` and uses 0 credits. A work email found uses 10 credits and a mobile 250. For 100 profiles that all return both, that is 26,000 credits, which fits the Growth plan at $29 a month, and each miss uses none. When the free lookups run out, the API returns HTTP 402 with an upgrade link, and the agent pauses until the daily reset or until you give it a key from your [account page](https://enrich.chat/account/). Plans bill monthly with unlimited seats. See [pricing](https://enrich.chat/pricing/) for the plans.

```text
Use www.enrich.chat to enrich this list of LinkedIn URLs with work emails and mobiles. Flag catch_all emails as risky, mark rows with no match as not found, and tell me the total credits_used.
```

The prompts work in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Codex and any code that can send a GET request, as our [guide for AI agents](https://enrich.chat/agents/) shows. To try one profile in the browser first, use the free [LinkedIn email and phone finder](https://enrich.chat/tools/linkedin-email-finder/). For the full response, see the [LinkedIn URL to contact API](https://enrich.chat/api/linkedin-to-contact/). To test a risky email domain, run it through the [catch-all checker](https://enrich.chat/tools/catch-all-checker/).

## When is a LinkedIn MCP server the better choice?

A LinkedIn MCP server is the better choice when the job happens inside LinkedIn itself. Enrich.chat does not do these jobs:

- **Posting.** To draft and publish posts, use an OAuth server built on Share on LinkedIn, or a hosted tool such as Zapier. This is the low-risk use of a LinkedIn MCP.
- **Your inbox and network.** Reading your own messages and invitations needs your account. Only session-based or hosted-account servers do this, with the account risk above.
- **Job search.** Session-based servers such as stickerdaniel's search LinkedIn jobs and read postings. That helps job seekers more than sales teams, and it carries the same account risk.
- **Quick checks in ChatGPT.** LinkedIn's own ChatGPT plugin confirms a person's title and company through an approved route.
- **Ad reporting.** The LinkedIn Ads plugin for ChatGPT reads ad set performance.

Two limits to know before you pick Enrich.chat. It does not post, message or connect on LinkedIn, and it returns the current role and company rather than full job history or posts. Also, it has no Chrome extension or dialer, so you use it from an agent, the API or the free web tools.

If you mostly need emails and phone numbers for people you found on LinkedIn, read our guides to [finding an email on LinkedIn](https://enrich.chat/blog/find-email-on-linkedin/) and [getting a phone number from LinkedIn](https://enrich.chat/blog/find-phone-number-from-linkedin/), or compare the [best LinkedIn email finders](https://enrich.chat/blog/best-linkedin-email-finder/). The same trade-off applies to other vendors' servers, covered in [Apollo MCP](https://enrich.chat/blog/apollo-mcp-alternative/), [ZoomInfo MCP](https://enrich.chat/blog/zoominfo-mcp/) and [HubSpot MCP](https://enrich.chat/blog/hubspot-mcp/).

Whatever you choose, you are responsible for the outreach rules: CAN-SPAM for email, the TCPA for calls and texts, and GDPR for people in the EU. Anyone can remove their data from Enrich.chat at [enrich.chat/opt-out/](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is there an official LinkedIn MCP server?

No public one. On October 15, 2026, LinkedIn's developer docs, the official MCP Registry and Anthropic's connector directory listed no LinkedIn MCP server. The only official LinkedIn connectors we found are two plugins in ChatGPT: [LinkedIn](https://openai.com/business/plugins/linkedin/), which looks up a professional's title, company and location, and LinkedIn Ads, a read-only beta for ad reports. Every GitHub project called a LinkedIn MCP server is third-party code, and the most popular one says it is not affiliated with LinkedIn.

### Is the LinkedIn MCP server on GitHub safe to use?

It is only as safe as its code for your computer, and it is risky for your LinkedIn account. The most popular one, [stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server](https://github.com/stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server), works through your logged-in browser session. Its README warns that LinkedIn's User Agreement prohibits automated access and that accounts can be restricted or banned. LinkedIn's [help center](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1341387) says members who use tools that scrape or automate its site risk having their accounts restricted or shut down.

### Can I connect LinkedIn to Claude?

Not with an official connector. Anthropic's [connector directory](https://claude.com/connectors) has no LinkedIn connector, so every option is third-party. You can add a community MCP server to Claude Desktop's config file, add a hosted server URL as a custom connector, or use an OAuth-based tool to post. Session-based servers put your LinkedIn account at risk. If you only need contact details for people on LinkedIn, add the [Enrich.chat MCP server](https://enrich.chat/install/) to Claude, or paste the Enrich.chat prompt instead. It takes the profile URL as a lookup key and never logs in to LinkedIn.

### Does the LinkedIn API let you search people or get email addresses?

Not for prospecting. The self-serve permissions on [Microsoft Learn](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/shared/authentication/getting-access) return only the signed-in member's own name, photo and email, plus the right to post as that member. Partner programs such as the Advertising API, Community Management and Sales Navigator's SNAP need LinkedIn's approval. LinkedIn's [Marketing API rules](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/marketing/restricted-use-cases) also bar using member data to find prospects, create leads or enrich a CRM.

### Can a LinkedIn MCP server get someone's email or phone number?

Only if LinkedIn already shows it to you. Session-based servers read the Contact info section through your account, and LinkedIn shows that section to [1st-degree connections only](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a545600/what-people-can-see-on-your-profile). For anyone else, expect no email and no phone. An enrichment API is the usual route instead. Enrich.chat returns a work email marked verified, catch_all or unknown and a mobile with a line of mobile or unknown, and it uses 0 credits when it finds no match.

### What is the LinkedIn app in ChatGPT?

It is LinkedIn's own plugin for ChatGPT, listed with LinkedIn as the developer in [OpenAI's plugin directory](https://openai.com/business/plugins/linkedin/). You ask about a person, and it shows their title, company, location and follower count, with a link to the full profile. It runs in ChatGPT Work and Codex, not in Claude or other MCP clients. OpenAI's listing mentions no email addresses or phone numbers. A second plugin, LinkedIn Ads, gives read-only ad set reports.
