# Crunchbase vs PitchBook in 2026: a self-serve funding database against a quote-only deal platform

Crunchbase publishes its plans and PitchBook sells by quote. We read both vendors' own pages and terms in October 2026, and show where a third option for company contacts fits.

By Enrich.chat Editorial. Updated October 19, 2026.

**Short answer:** Choose Crunchbase for funding and investor data at published prices: [Pro costs $49 a month billed annually in year one](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/pricing), or $99 monthly. Choose PitchBook for deals, valuations and funds: it publishes no price, and [US federal orders](https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_89703025FAR000008_8900_89703025AAR000001_8900) show $7,500 to $10,500 a seat a year. Enrich.chat adds company contacts and only the latest funding stage, not rounds or investors.

## Key takeaways

- Crunchbase publishes its plans: a free account, Pro at $49 a month billed annually in year one ($99 monthly) and Business from $199. Its API is sold by quote (checked October 16, 2026).
- PitchBook publishes no price. Public US federal orders show $7,500 to $10,500 per seat a year on 3 to 21 seats, and one single seat cost $24,300.
- Each vendor's coverage claims conflict with the other's, and company counts range from 2M+ to 12M+ by source. We found no independent audit.
- Both renew automatically and bar scraping. Crunchbase refunds only within 7 days, and PitchBook can change renewal fees on 45 days' notice.
- Enrich.chat takes a company website and returns a profile, the people there and work emails with a status. It has no funding rounds, investors, deals or valuations, only the latest funding stage on a profile where we have it.

## Quick verdict

Pick **Crunchbase** for funding rounds, investors and forecasts at prices you can read, and **PitchBook** for deal terms, valuations, funds and analyst support on an order form. If you only need the company profile and its people from a website, inside an agent or app, **Enrich.chat** does that, with no funding rounds, investors or deal data.

- Funding and investors, published prices: Crunchbase (Free account; Pro from $49 a month in year one)
- Deals, valuations, funds and analysts: PitchBook (Quote only, by order form)
- Company profile and people from a website: Enrich.chat (From $29 a month, no rounds or deals)

## Side by side

- **Crunchbase** (Best for funding research at a published price): A database of companies, funding rounds, investors and leaders. It has a free account, Pro at $49 a month billed annually in year one and Business from $199. Its API comes through sales.
- **PitchBook** (Best for deal, fund and valuation work): Morningstar's private-market platform for investors and dealmakers. It publishes no price, and public federal orders show $7,500 to $10,500 a seat a year.

## What is the difference between Crunchbase and PitchBook?

Crunchbase is a database of companies, funding rounds, investors and leaders that you can start using for free. PitchBook is a private-market data platform for investors, bankers and dealmakers that you buy by quote. Each vendor calls its own product the deeper one, so this page shows what each says about itself and what we could source. We read both vendors' own pages on October 16, 2026. PitchBook's came through Internet Archive copies, because its site blocks automated reads.

The buyers differ. [Crunchbase's Pro page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/crunchbase-pro) names investors, go-to-market teams, analysts and founders. [PitchBook's pricing page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260728165003/https://pitchbook.com/pricing) says the platform is geared toward investment professionals. Morningstar's [2025 annual report](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1289419/000128941926000013/morn-20251231.htm) lists private equity and venture capital firms, asset managers, limited partners, investment banks, private credit investors, corporations and service providers as PitchBook clients.

The owners differ too. [TechCrunch reported](https://techcrunch.com/2015/09/22/aolverizon-completes-spinout-of-crunchbase-funded-by-emergence-capital/) that AOL and Verizon spun Crunchbase out in 2015, and [OMERS Ventures](https://omersventures.com/news/crunchbase-crunches-its-way-to-fresh-new-capital) says it announced a $50 million Series D on July 20, 2022. PitchBook is a segment of Morningstar, which reports $671.8 million of PitchBook revenue for 2025, about 10,200 client accounts and 113,451 licensed users. Our guides to [what Crunchbase is](https://enrich.chat/blog/what-is-crunchbase/) and [what PitchBook is](https://enrich.chat/blog/what-is-pitchbook/) cover each in full.

Each vendor also publishes a comparison with the other. [Crunchbase's page](https://about.crunchbase.com/crunchbase-vs-pitchbook) argues that it sees earlier-stage companies and forecasts events. [PitchBook's page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260731010844/https://pitchbook.com/compare/pitchbook-vs-crunchbase) calls Crunchbase a lighter database for sales prospecting and early-stage founders, and says PitchBook work ends in an investment committee decision. Both are marketing. We use them for what each vendor claims, not for who is right.

## What data does each one hold, as each vendor states it?

Both cover private companies, funding rounds and investors. PitchBook adds funds, limited partners, debt and analyst research. Crunchbase leads with forecasts and heat scores. Every count below is the vendor's own claim, and we ran no tests.

*What each vendor says it holds. Crunchbase pages read October 16, 2026. PitchBook pages are Internet Archive copies dated May to October 2026.*

| Data type | Crunchbase says | PitchBook says |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Company profiles | 4M+ private companies and 30M+ verified updates a year ([Pro page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/crunchbase-pro)) | 10.1M+ companies, private and public ([data page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260708093912/https://pitchbook.com/data)) |
| Funding and deals | Funding rounds, investments, acquisitions, IPOs and fund formations ([Data page](https://about.crunchbase.com/data)) | 2.9M+ deals with histories and multiples ([data page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260708093912/https://pitchbook.com/data)) |

| Valuations | Current valuation estimates on Pro; pre and post-money valuations and deal terms in the API's Advanced Financials ([docs](https://data.crunchbase.com/docs/fundamentals)) | Pre and post-money valuations, multiples and ownership ([comparison page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260731010844/https://pitchbook.com/compare/pitchbook-vs-crunchbase)) |
| Funds and limited partners | Fund formations listed as events | 156K+ funds and 62K+ limited partners ([data page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260708093912/https://pitchbook.com/data)) |

| Forecasts and models | Seven prediction types and 15M+ predictions, refreshed weekly ([comparison page](https://about.crunchbase.com/crunchbase-vs-pitchbook)) | VC Exit Predictor and Valuation Estimates ([AI page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260722011816/https://pitchbook.com/products/pitchbooks-ai-capabilities)) |
| Analysts and research | An analyst team that validates data; no research reports listed on the pages we read | Analyst access and 2,400+ research reports in 2025 ([10-K](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1289419/000128941926000013/morn-20251231.htm)) |

The two vendors disagree about each other. Crunchbase's comparison page says it tracks 264,112 early-stage companies, 16% more than PitchBook's 227,071. PitchBook's page says it holds more than double the company coverage, and that Crunchbase lacks the deal detail valuation work needs. Crunchbase's own [Fundamentals docs](https://data.crunchbase.com/docs/fundamentals) list pre and post-money valuations and deal terms in its Advanced Financials package. We found no independent audit of either claim.

Even the company counts move with the source. Figure 1 lists six counts for the two databases.

**Figure 1: Six company counts for Crunchbase and PitchBook.** Bar chart of how many companies each database is said to hold, in millions. PitchBook's data page says 10.1 million and its comparison page says 12 million. Clay's April 2026 article says 4.2 million organizations. Crunchbase's Pro page says 4 million private companies, PitchBook's comparison page says about 4.7 million, and Clay says a little over 2 million.

*Company counts as each source states them. Grey bars are PitchBook, blue bars are Crunchbase. The definitions differ: PitchBook counts private and public companies, Crunchbase's page counts private companies, and Clay counts organizations for PitchBook. Sources: [PitchBook data page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260708093912/https://pitchbook.com/data), [PitchBook comparison page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260731010844/https://pitchbook.com/compare/pitchbook-vs-crunchbase), [Crunchbase Pro page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/crunchbase-pro), [Clay](https://www.clay.com/blog/crunchbase-vs-pitchbook).*

Read a headline count as marketing. Clay sells a competing product, and its article is dated April 29, 2026. Test 50 of your own target companies in a trial before you pay for either.

## How much do Crunchbase and PitchBook cost in 2026?

Crunchbase publishes its plans: Pro is $49 a month billed annually in year one or $99 billed monthly, and Business starts at $199 a month billed annually. PitchBook publishes no price. Public records show $7,500 to $10,500 per seat a year on multi-seat US federal orders, and one single seat cost $24,300.

*Price points for both vendors. Crunchbase prices were checked October 16, 2026. Every PitchBook figure is reported or from public records, not a PitchBook price list.*

| Price point | Amount | Basis |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Crunchbase free account | $0 | [Pricing page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/pricing): profiles, search, AI research and MCP, with usage limits |
| Crunchbase Pro | $49 a month billed annually in year one ($79 crossed out), or $99 billed monthly | [Pricing page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/pricing): one seat, 7-day trial |
| Crunchbase Business | From $199 a month, billed annually | [Pricing page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/pricing): 2 or more seats, talk to sales |
| Crunchbase API | Custom, no public price | [Custom Data Solutions](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/pricing), by quote |
| Crunchbase median contract | $20,000 a year; range $4,440 to $51,377 | [Vendr](https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/crunchbase), 71 purchases, all products |
| PitchBook list price | None published | [Pricing page copy](https://web.archive.org/web/20260728165003/https://pitchbook.com/pricing): a request form; cost depends on seats and firm type |
| PitchBook seat, multi-seat orders | $7,500 to $10,500 a year | US federal orders, such as [19 seats at $142,500](https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_89703025FAR000008_8900_89703025AAR000001_8900) and [15 seats at $157,500](https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_15JPSS26P00000398_1501_-NONE-_-NONE-); per seat is our arithmetic |
| PitchBook single seat | $24,300 for one year | [US Army order](https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_W911SD25PA009_9700_-NONE-_-NONE-), 2025 |
| PitchBook median contract | $32,000 a year; range $20,000 to $125,000 | [Vendr](https://web.archive.org/web/20250617223802/https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/pitchbook), June 2025 copy, 101 purchases |

Some pages still list an older Crunchbase price. Clay's April 2026 article shows a $29-a-user Starter plan, but Crunchbase's pricing page listed no such plan on October 16, 2026. Our [PitchBook pricing guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/pitchbook-pricing/) lists all seven federal seat orders, and our [Crunchbase API pricing guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/crunchbase-api-pricing/) covers the plans in more depth.

The figures are not like for like. A Pro plan is one login for research. A PitchBook seat comes with research, analyst access and plug-ins, and Vendr's medians mix many seat counts. Figure 2 puts every price on a monthly scale.

**Figure 2: Monthly equivalent of Crunchbase, PitchBook and Enrich.chat prices.** Bar chart of monthly equivalents. Crunchbase Pro costs $49 to $99 a month and Business from $199. An Enrich.chat Growth plan costs $29 a month. A PitchBook seat in 15 to 19 seat federal orders works out to $625 and $875 a month, and a single Army seat to $2,025. Vendr's median contract works out to $1,667 a month for Crunchbase and $2,667 for PitchBook. The products are not like for like.

*Monthly equivalents: Crunchbase's published plans, an Enrich.chat plan, PitchBook seat prices from US federal orders, and Vendr's medians. Yearly prices are divided by 12 (our arithmetic). Not like for like: a Crunchbase Pro plan is one research login, a PitchBook seat includes research and plug-ins, and an Enrich.chat plan buys API lookups of company profiles, people and work emails. ## What are the API and export limits?

Crunchbase caps exports at 2,000 rows a month on Pro and 5,000 on Business, and sells its REST API only through sales. PitchBook publishes no export cap or API price. Downloads are limited to what your order authorizes, and its API and data feed are a paid add-on.

*Export and API limits from each vendor's own pages and terms. PitchBook pages are Internet Archive copies.*

| Limit | Crunchbase | PitchBook |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Exports | 2,000 rows a month on Pro, 5,000 on Business; searches return up to 1,000 results ([pricing page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/pricing)) | The amount your order authorizes, and no compiling of more than an insubstantial portion of the database ([Terms of Use](https://web.archive.org/web/20260512161645/https://pitchbook.com/terms-of-use), section 3.3) |
| REST API | Sold through the sales team; each Enterprise key is limited to 200 requests a minute and 3 at once ([docs](https://data.crunchbase.com/docs/using-the-api)) | Direct Data, a paid add-on priced by data volume, refresh needs and technical specs ([10-K](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1289419/000128941926000013/morn-20251231.htm)) |
| Published API price | None; its [Data Access Terms](https://data.crunchbase.com/docs/terms) bar API customers from disclosing order-form pricing | None; public feed orders include [$21,000](https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_89703026FAR000022_8900_89703025AAR000001_8900) and [$332,641.05](https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_2099AC26F00038_2099_2099AC26D00002_2099) |
| CRM links | Business: Salesforce, HubSpot, Zapier and Outreach | CRM Integration add-on: Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics and HubSpot ([data page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260708093912/https://pitchbook.com/data)) |
| Plug-ins | Chrome extension on Pro and Business | Excel, PowerPoint and Chrome, free to clients ([integrations page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260512170522/https://pitchbook.com/products/integrations)) |
| Warehouse delivery | Snowflake or Databricks under Custom Data Solutions | Data Feed, as a Direct Data product |

Neither vendor lets you script a workaround. Crunchbase's [Terms of Service](https://about.crunchbase.com/terms-of-service) bar crawling, scraping and automated export, so the export button is the route. PitchBook's Terms of Use bar scrapers, bots and data mining. The competitor [Multiples](https://multiples.vc/compare/pitchbook-api-alternatives) estimates PitchBook API packages from about $70,000 a year and says a platform license is needed. That is an estimate, not a PitchBook price.

## Can an AI agent use Crunchbase or PitchBook?

Yes, for a paid subscriber who signs in. Both vendors connect to Claude and ChatGPT, and both tie access to an account. Crunchbase says MCP is included with Pro and Business, with usage limits. PitchBook's premium connectors are free to subscribers today, and Morningstar says a direct MCP product, expected to be priced by consumption, is in testing.

- **Crunchbase.** The [pricing page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/pricing) says MCP is included with a free account, Pro and Business, with usage limits. The [developer docs](https://data.crunchbase.com/docs/managing-mcp-access) say MCP is bought separately per workspace, with one seat per user on the Business base product. Ask sales which rule applies. The pricing page adds that Custom Data Solutions may include programmatic MCP access for unattended or backend agents.
- **PitchBook.** Its [data page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260708093912/https://pitchbook.com/data) says the Premium Connector brings its data into tools such as Claude and ChatGPT. In an [August 25, 2026 Q&A](https://shareholders.morningstar.com/investor-resources/investor-qa/qa-details/2026/How-are-PitchBook-Model-Context-Protocol-MCP-Connectors-monetized-today-if-at-all--2026-cy9M2BxfO7/default.aspx), Morningstar said subscribers get premium connectors at no extra charge for now, that wider access needs at least one full platform license, and that tools such as the VC Exit Predictor stay inside the platform.
- **Enrich.chat.** Its MCP server at `enrich.chat/mcp` needs no key or sign-in. The [install page](https://enrich.chat/install/) has the steps for each app.

Read the reuse rules before you wire either into an agent. Crunchbase's [MCP Server Terms](https://about.crunchbase.com/terms-of-service/mcp-server-terms), effective September 30, 2026, allow internal business use, bar giving raw data or outputs to unauthorized third parties, and require deleting embeddings within 10 days of termination. PitchBook's Terms of Use bar using its content with machine learning or AI programs, so check what your order form allows for the connectors.

## What do their own terms say about contracts and reuse?

Both renew automatically and both limit reuse. Crunchbase renews at the then-current rate and refunds only within 7 days. PitchBook can change renewal fees on 45 days' notice and treats payments as non-refundable. This is a reading of public terms. Your order form controls, and this is not legal advice.

*Terms as published. Crunchbase pages were read October 16, 2026. PitchBook's Terms of Use is an Internet Archive copy dated May 12, 2026, and its Data Feed License Agreement is a PDF on its file host.*

| Term | Crunchbase | PitchBook |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Renewal | Subscriptions renew at the then-current rate ([Terms of Service](https://about.crunchbase.com/terms-of-service)) | Fees for a renewal term can change on notice 45 days before the anniversary (Terms of Use, section 5.1); feed orders renew for one-year terms unless a party gives 30 days' notice ([Data Feed License Agreement](https://d7umqicpi7263.cloudfront.net/eula/6BUymbucoHzrzAFeK7WBEHUhDqDVmSyEsofCQR1RKAs)) |
| Renewal price rise | Not stated; [Vendr](https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/crunchbase) says 5% to 10% yearly increases are common | Feed license: the higher of 5% or US consumer price inflation |
| Refunds | A request within 7 days of payment; exporting data, even in a trial, ends that right ([Cancellation Policy](https://about.crunchbase.com/terms-of-service/cancellation-policy/)) | Non-refundable unless the order says otherwise (Terms of Use, section 5.1) |
| Trial | 7 days, then the paid plan starts unless you cancel | A trial is granted case by case and may be limited to parts of the content |
| Scraping and bots | Crawling, scraping and automated export barred | Scrapers, bots and data mining barred; a breach means deleting the data and paying 150% of direct data pricing (section 4.3) |
| Use in other tools | No copying of a significant portion into a tool such as ChatGPT except through MCP; API data may not train models ([Data Access Terms](https://data.crunchbase.com/docs/terms)) | No input into a CRM or other third-party database, and no use with machine learning or AI programs, unless your order allows (sections 4.3 and 4.6) |

Contract length differs. Morningstar's 10-K says its license agreements, most of them PitchBook and Morningstar Direct, typically run one to three years. Crunchbase's self-serve plans run monthly or yearly, and its API licenses follow your order form.

## How does Enrich.chat fit next to Crunchbase and PitchBook?

Enrich.chat is the step after you pick companies. Give it a company website from a Crunchbase or PitchBook list. It returns the company profile (name, industry, size and revenue bands, location and, where we have it, the latest funding stage), the people at the company, and a work email with a status for the people you choose. It has no funding rounds, investors, deals, valuations or fund data, so it replaces neither tool. Enrich.chat is ours, so the gaps are listed below.

An agent can make the calls from one prompt, or you can add the MCP server. The [company enrichment API](https://enrich.chat/api/company-enrichment/) and [people search API](https://enrich.chat/api/people-search/) pages list every field. Everything below is made up, uses `example.com` and is illustrative.

```
```

Each found work email comes back with a status label: `verified`, `catch_all` or `unknown`. It is a label, not a delivery guarantee, so treat every contact as a strong lead. A call that finds nothing uses 0 credits and no free lookup. Getting emails for both founders makes one company 35 credits. Go at about one request a second.

Say each company uses one company lookup, a search for 2 founders and 2 work emails. Your counts will differ, so treat the table as arithmetic, not a forecast. The row sizes match the export caps of Crunchbase's Pro and Business plans.

| 500 | 17,500 | Growth, $29 a month |
| 2,000, a full Pro export | 70,000 | Growth, $29 a month |
| 5,000, a full Business export | 175,000 | Scale, $90 a month |

A plan is a fixed monthly price, so the 500-company job uses only part of the Growth plan. Priced at that plan's own credit rate, its 17,500 credits come to $5.08, while the plan itself is $29 a month. Every plan has unlimited seats and no annual contract. See [Enrich.chat pricing](https://enrich.chat/pricing/) for every plan, and try the free [lead list builder](https://enrich.chat/tools/lead-list-builder/) to see one search before you commit. On the free tier, one company with two founder emails takes four lookups, so a free day covers about two companies.

### What does Enrich.chat not do?

- **No funding round, deal or valuation data.** It has no rounds, investors, acquisitions, valuations, fund data or forecasts. A profile shows only the latest funding stage and a revenue band, where we have them. Use Crunchbase or PitchBook for the rest.
- **Websites for lookups.** A company lookup takes a website, a LinkedIn company page or a company_id, not a name, so keep the website column when you export a list.
- **Modest batches.** A search returns 25 people a page and at most 1,000 per search. A batch call takes 25 items, and a [background job](https://enrich.chat/features/background-jobs/) takes up to 5,000 rows, keeps going after you close the browser tab, and keeps its results 30 days. Enterprise adds bulk files.
- **No sales suite.** There is no Chrome extension, CRM app, sequencing or intent data, and no SSO or SAML. Lists are shared by the whole [team workspace](https://enrich.chat/features/team-workspaces/). SDKs are planned, and plain HTTPS works today.

Check what your Crunchbase or PitchBook terms let you pass to another service before you move an export. The terms above limit copying and third-party databases, and a list from your own CRM avoids the question. People can remove their data at [enrich.chat/opt-out/](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/), and you are responsible for the rules that apply to you, such as TCPA, CAN-SPAM and GDPR. Accounts are covered by our [terms](https://enrich.chat/terms/). This is not legal advice. To run the loop on your own list, paste this into ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor:

```text
Use www.enrich.chat to take the company websites below, which I exported from my own Crunchbase or PitchBook list. For each one, look up the company profile, find up to 2 founders, then get a work email and its status for each founder. Go at about one request a second, mark misses as not found, flag catch_all emails as risky, add no funding rounds or deal data, and give me the total credits_used: [paste company websites, one per line]
```

## When is Crunchbase, PitchBook or Enrich.chat the better choice?

Pick Crunchbase for funding research at a price you can read, PitchBook for deal, fund and valuation work on an order form, and Enrich.chat when you only need the company profile and its people inside an agent or app. Figure 3 turns that into three questions.

**Figure 3: Which one fits, in three questions.** A decision tree with three questions. If you need deal terms, fund or limited partner data, or analyst access, choose PitchBook, sold by quote. If you need funding, investors and forecasts at a price you can read, choose Crunchbase, which has a free account and Pro from $49 a month in year one. If you need a company profile and its people from a website inside an agent or app, choose Enrich.chat, from $29 a month, which has no funding round or deal data.

### When Crunchbase is the better choice

- One researcher wants funding history, investors and forecasts at a price on the website. Pro is $49 a month billed annually in year one or $99 monthly, with a 7-day trial.
- You want to start free. A free Crunchbase account gives profiles, search, AI research and MCP with usage limits.
- A team wants CRM links. Business adds Salesforce, HubSpot, Zapier and Outreach from $199 a month.
- Your focus is early-stage companies. Crunchbase says it tracks more of them than PitchBook, though we could not verify that.

### When PitchBook is the better choice

- You need deal terms, valuations, exits, fund performance or limited partner data. PitchBook says these are its core, and Enrich.chat has none of them.
- You want analysts and research in the subscription. Morningstar's 10-K cites full-time analyst coverage across 30 sectors.
- You live in Excel or PowerPoint. PitchBook says its plug-ins are free to clients.
- You can budget for an order form. Public federal orders show $7,500 or more a seat a year, so ask for a quote and a renewal cap.

### When Enrich.chat is the better choice

Enrich.chat fits when the list is already chosen and you need the company profile, the people and their work emails inside an agent, a sheet or your own app. Plans start at $29 a month for 100,000 credits, with unlimited seats and no annual contract, and you can try 10 free lookups a day with no signup. It does not replace either database for funding or deals. The two can sit side by side: Crunchbase or PitchBook to pick the targets, and Enrich.chat for the contact step.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Crunchbase cheaper than PitchBook?

At list price, yes. [Crunchbase's pricing page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/pricing) shows Pro at $49 a month billed annually in year one or $99 monthly, and Business from $199 (checked October 16, 2026). PitchBook publishes no price. Public [US federal orders](https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_15JPSS26P00000398_1501_-NONE-_-NONE-) show $7,500 to $10,500 a seat a year, and Vendr reported $32,000 and $20,000 median contracts for PitchBook and Crunchbase. The two products differ, so compare what each includes.

### Which has more complete data, Crunchbase or PitchBook?

We found no independent audit of either. PitchBook's [data page](https://web.archive.org/web/20260708093912/https://pitchbook.com/data) claims 10.1M+ companies, and Crunchbase's [Pro page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/crunchbase-pro) claims 4M+ private companies. Crunchbase's comparison page says it tracks 16% more early-stage companies, while PitchBook's says it has more than double the coverage. The counts use different definitions, so test 50 of your own target companies in each.

### Do Crunchbase and PitchBook have an API?

Both do, and both sell it by quote. Crunchbase's [docs](https://data.crunchbase.com/docs/using-the-api) say REST access comes through its sales team, with Enterprise keys limited to 200 requests a minute and 3 at once. PitchBook's Direct Data is a paid add-on priced by data volume, refresh needs and technical specs, per Morningstar's [10-K](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1289419/000128941926000013/morn-20251231.htm). Neither publishes an API price. For company profiles by website, see the [company enrichment API](https://enrich.chat/api/company-enrichment/).

### Can you use Crunchbase or PitchBook in Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes, with a paid account. Crunchbase's [pricing page](https://about.crunchbase.com/products/pricing) says MCP is included with Pro and Business with usage limits, while its developer docs say MCP is bought per workspace. Morningstar said on [August 25, 2026](https://shareholders.morningstar.com/investor-resources/investor-qa/qa-details/2026/How-are-PitchBook-Model-Context-Protocol-MCP-Connectors-monetized-today-if-at-all--2026-cy9M2BxfO7/default.aspx) that PitchBook subscribers get premium connectors in Claude and ChatGPT at no extra charge for now. Enrich.chat's MCP server needs no key.

### Who owns Crunchbase and PitchBook?

Morningstar owns PitchBook, which it reports as its own segment, with $671.8 million of revenue in 2025 per its [10-K](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1289419/000128941926000013/morn-20251231.htm). Crunchbase is a separate private company: [TechCrunch reported](https://techcrunch.com/2015/09/22/aolverizon-completes-spinout-of-crunchbase-funded-by-emergence-capital/) its 2015 spinout from AOL and Verizon. Our guides to [Crunchbase](https://enrich.chat/blog/what-is-crunchbase/) and [PitchBook](https://enrich.chat/blog/what-is-pitchbook/) cover each owner and its history.

### What can I use for company profiles and contacts instead of either?

If you need a company profile and the people there, not funding rounds or deals, Enrich.chat sells monthly credit plans (Growth $29 for 100,000 credits, Scale $90 for 500,000 credits, Pro $299 for 2,500,000 credits). A company profile found uses 5 credits, each person returned 5, a work email 10, and a miss uses 0. It has no funding rounds, investors, deals or valuations, only the latest funding stage on a profile. See the [PitchBook alternatives](https://enrich.chat/alternatives/pitchbook/) and [Crunchbase alternatives](https://enrich.chat/alternatives/crunchbase/).
