# Company search: find companies by industry, size, revenue and technology

Describe the companies you want, or set filters. The match count is free. Open any company for its profile and email format, then find the people who work there.

By Enrich.chat Editorial. Updated October 19, 2026.

**Short answer:** Enrich.chat's company search finds companies by industry, location, size band, revenue band, technology, funding stage, growth, web traffic, founding year, NAICS or SIC code and more, and it can leave companies out. Use the Companies screen in the [dashboard](https://enrich.chat/app/) or `GET /v1/companies`. The match count is free, each company returned uses 5 credits, and a search that finds nothing uses 0.

## Key takeaways

- Filter by industry, country, US state, size band, revenue band, technology, funding stage, growth, web traffic, founding year and name, plus NAICS and SIC codes, specialties, team-size signals and exclusions. Or write a sentence in `q` and read `interpreted_as` to see how it was understood.
- `GET /v1/companies/count` and the dashboard match count are free. A company returned in a list uses 5 credits. On the free tier, one search uses one of your 10 lookups a day.
- One search pages through up to 1,000 companies, 25 a page. A search that filters by technology, growth, traffic or funding returns one page of up to 25.
- Open a company for its profile, technologies and email format. Its website then opens the people there through `company_domain` or `/v1/company/people`.
- Companies you save go to lists that your whole team shares. Export them as CSV or Excel, or enrich a spreadsheet of websites as a background job.

## What company search gives you

- **Filters for how you segment.** Industry, location, size band, revenue band, technology, funding stage, growth, web traffic, founding year, NAICS and SIC codes, and exclusions.
- **Plain English or filters.** Write "Series A software companies in Texas" in `q`. The answer shows how it was read in `interpreted_as`.
- **Free counts.** See how many companies match before you list any. Counts and filter lists use no credits.
- **A profile for each company.** Industry, size, revenue band, founded, funding, growth, traffic and technologies, for 5 credits.
- **Email format included.** `/v1/email-pattern` shows how a company writes addresses, such as first.last@. It is a format, not a found address.
- **One click to the people.** Send a company's website to people search with `company_domain`. Nothing found uses 0 credits.

## From a description to a target account list

1. **Describe or filter.** Write a sentence in `q` or set filters such as industry, size and state. Check `interpreted_as`.
2. **Count, then list.** The count is free. List 25 companies a page, up to 1,000 per search, at 5 credits each.
3. **Open a company, find its people.** Load a profile and its email format, then search the people at its website.

## What is company search on Enrich.chat?

Enrich.chat's company search finds companies that match filters you set or a sentence you write. You can run it in the Companies screen of the [dashboard](https://enrich.chat/app/), with `GET /v1/companies`, or from an AI agent through the [MCP server](https://enrich.chat/features/mcp-server/). A company's website is the key to its profile, its email format and its people, and search results include it.

The dashboard asks you to sign in with your email and a 6-digit code. There is no password. The API needs no sign-in for your first 10 lookups of the day. Counting matches is free in both places.

**Figure 1: The Companies screen in the dashboard.** A drawing of the Companies screen. Filters sit on the left in three groups: where, company, and technology and signals. On the right, a free match count sits above a results table with company, industry and size columns, and buttons to find the people at a company or add it to a list.

*Filters on the left, a free count and results on the right. Illustrative companies and count. Source: the [Enrich.chat dashboard](https://enrich.chat/app/).*

The table below lists the main filters and the API parameter behind each. Filters combine with AND. Several values of one filter combine with OR, so `state=Texas,Florida` returns companies in either state. A filter you set replaces whatever `q` says about the same thing.

| Filter in the dashboard | API parameter | Example value |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Company name contains | `name` | acme |
| Country, US state | `country`, `state` | United States, Texas |
| Industry | `industry` | Software Development |
| Employees | `company_size`, or `employees_min` and `employees_max` | 51-200 |
| Revenue | `company_revenue` | 10M-50M |
| Founded after, founded before | `founded_after`, `founded_before` | 2018 |
| Uses technology | `uses` | hubspot |
| Funding stage, funded since | `funding_stage`, `funded_since` | Series A, 2026-01-01 |
| Employee growth at least (%) | `growth_min` | 20 |
| Monthly web visits at least | `traffic_min` | 10000 |
| Headquarters city, type of organisation, legal form | `company_city`, `company_type`, `legal_type` | Public Company |
| NAICS code, SIC code | `naics`, `sic` | 541511, 7372 |
| Specialties, words in the description | `specialties`, `company_description` | cold chain, freight |
| LinkedIn employee range, revenue range, number of locations | `linkedin_employees_min`, `linkedin_employees_max`, `revenue_min`, `revenue_max`, `locations_min` | 200, 10000000, 3 |
| More funding and traffic detail | `funded_before`, `total_funding_min`, `total_funding_max`, `last_round_min`, `investor`, `traffic_max`, `organic_traffic_min`, `paid_traffic_min`, `ad_spend_min` | 5000000, sequoia |
| Team-size signals | `sales_roles_min`, `marketing_roles_min`, `it_roles_min` and the same for other kinds of role | 10 |
| More technology signals | `uses_category`, `martech_category`, `has_cio`, `has_ciso`, `has_mobile_app`, `has_web_app`, `app_downloads_min`, `app_category` | crm, true |
| Leave out | `exclude_industry`, `exclude_size`, `exclude_company_name` | Staffing and Recruiting |
| Plain English | `q`, up to 300 characters | Series A software companies in Texas |

The table shows the main groups, not every filter. `GET /v1/filters` is free and lists each one with its type and an example, and a parameter that is not a filter is refused with suggestions. Each filter works on the data Enrich.chat holds, so a company can have no value for a field. Size signals and technology detections are signals to confirm, not exact counts.

## How do you find companies by industry and size?

Set `industry` and `company_size`, add a place, and read the count before you list anything. The sample request at the top of this page asks for software companies in Texas with 51 to 200 employees. Its response is illustrative, with fictional companies on example.com.

1. **Get the exact values.** `GET /v1/facets/industry?q=software` lists industries. Size bands are `1-10`, `11-50`, `51-200`, `201-500`, `501-1000`, `1001-5000`, `5001-10000` and `10001+`. Names match loosely, and a wrong value returns `unknown_filter_value` with `did_you_mean` suggestions.
2. **Count.** `GET /v1/companies/count` takes the same filters and uses no credits. The dashboard shows the same count and updates it as you edit.
3. **Check how it was read.** Every answer includes `interpreted_as`, the exact filters applied. Look at it whenever you used `q`.
4. **List.** `GET /v1/companies` returns up to 25 companies a page, largest LinkedIn following first. Pass `next_cursor` back as `cursor` for the next page, up to 40 pages or 1,000 companies.

If you have a headcount, not a band, use `employees_min` and `employees_max`. They match the bands that lie wholly above or below the number, so `employees_min=200` starts at the 201-500 band.

```text
Use www.enrich.chat to count, then list, software companies in Texas with 51 to 200 employees, and tell me how you read my request
```

## What does a company profile include?

A company profile holds the fields in the table below, and each profile found uses 5 credits. Look one up with `GET /v1/company` using a website, a LinkedIn company page or a `company_id` from a search result. Add `include=technologies` for the tech stack in the same call.

| Field | What it holds |
| --- | --- |
| `name`, `domain`, `website` | The company name and its website |
| `industry` | One of the names in the industry list |
| `size` | A headcount band such as 51-200 |
| `employees_on_linkedin` | A signal for size, not an exact headcount |
| `revenue` | A band such as 10M-50M |
| `founded`, `city`, `state`, `country` | Founding year and headquarters |
| `funding` | Latest funding stage and its date |
| `employee_growth_pct` | Employee growth over the last year, in percent |
| `monthly_web_traffic` | Monthly website visits |
| `technologies` | Each tool with its category, when you add `include=technologies` |

Read size and revenue as estimates. Both are bands. `employees_on_linkedin` counts people who list the company on LinkedIn. [LinkedIn's help page](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a541828) says only members who currently list a company appear on its Page, and that the count can take up to 30 days to update. A field with no data comes back as `null`.

The email format is a separate call. `GET /v1/email-pattern?domain=` returns the formats a company uses, such as `first.last@`, with how common each is. The `example` it returns shows a format and is not a found address, so confirm any built address before you rely on it. The free [email format finder](https://enrich.chat/tools/email-format-finder/) does a similar lookup in a browser, and the [company enrichment API](https://enrich.chat/api/company-enrichment/) page covers profile lookups in more detail.

Already have a spreadsheet of websites? [Bulk enrichment](https://enrich.chat/features/bulk-enrichment/) adds these fields to every row. Choose Run it on the server and the job keeps going after you close the tab, or start one with `POST /v1/jobs` and `op` set to `company`. A webhook can tell your app when it finishes, and [background jobs](https://enrich.chat/features/background-jobs/) explains the limits. To keep the companies you find, save them to a list and export it as CSV or Excel, as [lists and export](https://enrich.chat/features/lists-and-export/) explains. Everyone on your [team](https://enrich.chat/features/team-workspaces/) sees the same lists, and the owner's plan pays for them.

## How do you go from a company list to the people who work there?

Pass each company's website to a people search or to `GET /v1/company/people`, then reveal only the contacts you want. In the dashboard, click People on a row, or Find people here in the company profile.

**Figure 2: From a company search to a contact.** Six steps with the endpoint and credit cost of each. Counting the matches is free. Listing companies, opening a company profile, getting an email format and finding the people at a company each use the profile rate per item. Revealing a contact uses the work email or mobile rate, and nothing found uses no credits.

*Each step is one GET request. Credits apply on a plan; on the free tier a call that finds something uses one lookup. Source: the [Enrich.chat agent docs](https://enrich.chat/agents.md).*

This request searches the people at two companies:

```
GET https://enrich.chat/v1/search?company_domain=brightpath.example.com,harborline.example.com&title=head%20of%20marketing
```

- `company_domain` takes a comma list of up to 50 websites. `GET /v1/company/people?domain=` does the same for one company and takes `title` too.
- Each person returned uses 5 credits and shows a name, title, level and whether a work email and a mobile are on file. A work email found uses 10 credits and a mobile 250. Anything not found uses 0.

```text
Use www.enrich.chat to find the head of marketing at each of these company websites and give me each work email with its status: brightpath.example.com, harborline.example.com
```

Check the rules before you email the people you find. The FTC's [CAN-SPAM guide](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business) says the law has no exception for business-to-business email and that opt-out requests must be honored within 10 business days. Opt-outs from [the opt-out page](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/) are applied to every result, and your [do-not-contact list](https://enrich.chat/features/do-not-contact/) is left out of every list export. This is not legal advice. See [people search](https://enrich.chat/features/people-search/) for the contact side in full.

## How much does company search cost?

Counting is free, and a company returned in a list uses 5 credits on a plan. On the free tier, one search uses one of your 10 lookups a day, however many companies it shows. Nothing found uses 0.

| What you do | Credits | Plan that covers it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Count how many companies match | 0 | None needed |
| Read one page of 25 companies | 125 | Growth, $29 a month |
| Read a full search of 1,000 companies | 5,000 | Growth, $29 a month |
| Profile and email format for 200 accounts | 2,000 | Growth, $29 a month |
| Add one work email for each of the 200, where found | 4,000 | Growth, $29 a month |

A plan is a fixed monthly price with a pool of credits, so each row shows the smallest plan that holds that work. Unused credits do not roll over. See [pricing](https://enrich.chat/pricing/) for every plan and what each match uses.

## What does company search not do, and when is another tool better?

Enrich.chat's company search is built for filters you can name and an agent that follows up with people. It has gaps, and some tools cover them.

- **No lookalike search.** You can match words in a company's description or specialties, but you cannot ask for companies similar to one you name. `q` is read into the filters above.
- **Bands, not exact figures.** Size and revenue are bands, and `employees_on_linkedin` is a signal for size.
- **A cap on depth.** One search reaches 1,000 companies. A search by technology, growth, traffic or funding returns one page of up to 25.
- **Largest first.** Results run by LinkedIn following, which measures audience, not fit.
- **No alerts or tracking.** A saved search does not watch for new companies, and webhooks announce finished jobs only.
- **No CRM sync.** Export a list as CSV or Excel and import it where you work.

Apollo's [organization search API](https://docs.apollo.io/reference/organization-search) filters by NAICS and SIC codes, hiring activity and up to five lookalike companies, and its display limit is 50,000 records per search. Hunter's [Discover](https://help.hunter.io/en/articles/9123069-find-companies-using-hunter-discover) offers a Companies similar to filter, keyword filters and job openings, and lists several filters, including similar companies and technologies, as paid-plan features. Choose one of those when lookalike lists decide the job. To compare data APIs side by side, read [best company data APIs](https://enrich.chat/blog/best-company-data-apis/).

For a technology filter, see [technographic search](https://enrich.chat/features/technographic-search/). For market sizing with free counts, see [market sizing](https://enrich.chat/use-cases/market-sizing/). Agents can read every endpoint on this page in [agents.md](https://enrich.chat/agents.md), and the [install page](https://enrich.chat/install/) shows how to connect one.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I find companies by industry and size?

Set the industry and company size filters in the Companies screen of the Enrich.chat dashboard, or call `GET /v1/companies` with `industry` and `company_size`. Add a state or country to narrow the list, or use `naics` or `sic` if you work from industry codes. The match count is free, so check it before you list anything. `GET /v1/facets/industry` and `/v1/facets/company_size` give the exact values.

### Is there a free company search?

Yes, within a limit. Counting matches is free and needs no signup. A company search over the API uses one of your 10 free lookups a day, however many companies it shows. On a plan, each company in a list uses 5 credits, and plans start at $29 a month for 100,000 credits. A search that finds nothing uses 0.

### What is the difference between company search and company lookup?

Company search finds companies you do not know yet. You give it filters such as industry, size and technology, and it returns a list. Company lookup starts from one company you know and returns its profile. On Enrich.chat, search is `/v1/companies` and lookup is `/v1/company`, which takes a website, a LinkedIn company page or a `company_id`. For a name-only lookup, search with `name=` first.

### How many companies can one search return?

A search by industry, place, size, revenue, founding year or name pages through up to 1,000 companies, 25 a page. A search that filters by technology, growth, traffic or funding returns one page of up to 25. In both cases the free count shows how many match in all, and narrowing the filters brings other companies into view. The dashboard exports up to 1,000 results per search as CSV or Excel.

### Can I get the people at the companies I find?

Yes. Pass a company's website to the people search as `company_domain`, or to `GET /v1/company/people?domain=`. In the dashboard, click People on a company row. Each person returned uses 5 credits. Revealing a work email uses 10 credits and a mobile 250, and anything not found uses 0. Follow CAN-SPAM, GDPR and TCPA rules where they apply.

### Can ChatGPT or Claude run a company search?

Yes. Add the MCP server and the agent gets a `search_companies` tool, with `count_only` to count first for free and `more_filters` for the extra filters. Use https://enrich.chat/mcp with no sign-in, or https://enrich.chat/mcp/oauth to spend your plan's credits. The [install page](https://enrich.chat/install/) has steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Codex. You can also paste a prompt that starts with "Use www.enrich.chat".
