# Do not contact list: keep opted-out people out of search, reveals and exports

Paste emails, company websites or LinkedIn profiles into the Do not contact screen. Your whole team shares the list. The dashboard flags matches in search, switches off their reveal buttons, and leaves them out of every CSV you export. Opt-outs requested at enrich.chat/opt-out/ are honored too.

By Enrich.chat Editorial. Updated October 19, 2026.

**Short answer:** Enrich.chat's Do not contact list holds the emails, company websites and LinkedIn profiles you add in the dashboard, and your whole team shares it. Anyone who matches is flagged in search, cannot be revealed, and is left out of every CSV you export. Separately, anyone can opt out at [enrich.chat/opt-out/](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/), and requests are processed within 15 days.

## Key takeaways

- The Do not contact screen takes emails, company websites and LinkedIn profiles, pasted one per line or separated by commas. A company website covers everyone at that company.
- Matches are flagged in search, their reveal buttons are off, and they are left out of every export, Bulk enrich contact column and background job result. Direct lookups through the API and the MCP server return what they find.
- The whole team shares one list, so an entry added once applies to everyone on the team.
- Opt-outs requested at enrich.chat/opt-out/ are processed within 15 days and apply to every result, for everyone.
- CAN-SPAM sets 10 business days to honor an opt-out, and GDPR lets people object to direct marketing at any time. This page is not legal advice.

## A suppression list you control, built into the dashboard

- **Three kinds of entry.** Emails, company websites and LinkedIn profiles. A company website covers everyone at that company.
- **Applied across the dashboard.** Flagged in search, reveal switched off, and left out of CSV exports, Bulk enrich contact columns and background jobs.
- **Opt-outs apply everywhere.** People who opt out at enrich.chat/opt-out/ are left out of every result.
- **Paste, edit, remove.** Add many entries at once, one per line or separated by commas. Remove one any time.
- **Shared by your team.** One list for the whole team. Add an entry once and nobody has to paste it again.
- **Opt-outs in 15 days.** Requests to enrich.chat/opt-out/ are processed within 15 days.

## From a pasted list to a clean export

1. **Add your entries.** Open Do not contact in the dashboard and paste emails, company websites or LinkedIn profiles.
2. **Search and save.** Search for people. Anyone on your list is flagged and cannot be revealed. Save the rest to a list.
3. **Export.** Download the CSV. Anyone on your Do not contact list is left out of the file.

## What is the Do not contact list in Enrich.chat?

Enrich.chat's Do not contact list is a list of emails, company websites and LinkedIn profiles that you never want to contact. You manage it in the [dashboard](https://enrich.chat/app/) on the Do not contact screen, under Your work, and your whole team shares it. Anyone who matches an entry is flagged in search, cannot be revealed, and is left out of every CSV you export.

Many teams call this a [suppression list](https://www.unsubcentral.com/what-is-a-suppression-list). The UK data regulator uses both names. In its guidance on business-to-business marketing, the ICO [recommends adding businesses and contacts who object](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/direct-marketing-and-privacy-and-electronic-communications/business-to-business-marketing/) to a do not contact or suppression list, and screening new marketing lists against it before you send.

**Figure 1: The Do not contact screen in the dashboard.** The Do not contact screen has a box where you paste emails, company websites or LinkedIn profiles, one per line, and an Add button. Below it, Your list shows each entry with its type, email, domain or linkedin, its value, when it was added and a Remove button.

*The Do not contact screen in the [dashboard](https://enrich.chat/app/). Entries and dates are illustrative. A LinkedIn profile is stored as its short name.*

## What can you add to the Do not contact list?

You can add three kinds of entry: an email address, a company website or a LinkedIn profile. Paste them one per line or separated by commas, as many as you like at once.

| Entry | You paste | What it keeps out of exports |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Email | sam.ivers@harbor.example.com | That address. It matches once the person's work email has been revealed in your team's account. |
| Company website | rivalco.example.com | Every person at that company, and any email at that domain. |
| LinkedIn profile | linkedin.com/in/luis-ortega-cio | That person, whatever email or company they have. |

Enrich.chat tells you how many entries it did not recognize, so you can fix them and paste again. Each row has a Remove button. To keep a person out of a file completely, add their LinkedIn profile or their company website, because an email entry only matches after the email has been revealed.

## Where does the Do not contact list apply, and where does it not?

In the dashboard, your Do not contact list applies in four places. In search, a matching person or company is flagged Do not contact and the reveal buttons are switched off; the export on the search screen leaves them out. In Bulk enrich, a matching row is marked in the file you download and its contact columns are left blank. A background job does the same in its results: a matching row is blank and marked in the `enrich_do_not_contact` column. When you export a list, matching rows are left out of the file; they stay on the list on screen, so you can still see who is held back.

**Figure 2: How the Do not contact list filters a list export.** A list of five people goes through the Do not contact check. Maya Okafor and Dana Whitfield do not match and appear in the CSV file. Luis Ortega matches on LinkedIn profile, Sam Ivers on email and Priya Nair on company website, so all three are left out of the file but stay on the list on screen.

*A list export with the Do not contact check. Names are fictional. Source: Enrich.chat [lists and export](https://enrich.chat/features/lists-and-export/).*

The list works in the dashboard and in background jobs. These do not use it:

- Direct lookups through the [API](https://enrich.chat/features/api/) or the [MCP server](https://enrich.chat/features/mcp-server/), which return what they find.
- Other teams. Each team has its own list.

A search result is matched by its company website or LinkedIn profile, and by its email once you have revealed it. An email entry on its own cannot flag someone whose email you have not revealed, so add their LinkedIn profile or company website too. A bulk run still looks up every row you upload, so remove anyone you already know is on your list before you run it: a work email found costs 10 credits, so 2,000 credits for 200 contacts is wasted on people you cannot contact.

## How is your list different from the Enrich.chat opt-out page?

Your Do not contact list is your team's, and the opt-out page is for anyone who wants out of Enrich.chat altogether. The first changes what your team sees and exports. The second removes a person from every result for every user. It also covers contacts you already revealed: if someone opts out after you revealed their email, that email is no longer returned in your account.

| | Do not contact list | Opt-out page |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Who uses it | Your team, for its own prospecting | Anyone who wants their data removed |
| How | Paste entries in the dashboard | Email privacy@enrich.chat from the address to remove |
| What it covers | Search flags, reveals, exports, Bulk enrich files and background jobs in your team's account | Every Enrich.chat result, for every user |
| When it applies | Straight away, in the dashboard | Within 15 days of the request |

**Figure 3: How an opt-out request is handled.** Four steps. The person emails the privacy address from the address to remove, with their name, LinkedIn URL, emails and phone numbers. Their records are deleted and suppressed within 15 days. They get a confirmation email. After that, the opt-out applies to every result in search, the API, the MCP server and the website tools.

## What do CAN-SPAM and GDPR say about opt-outs?

Both laws say an opt-out has to be honored, and a suppression list is how most senders keep track. The table summarizes what the primary sources say. It is general information, not legal advice.

| Rule | What it says | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| CAN-SPAM, timing | After a person opts out, you may not send them commercial email more than 10 business days after the request arrives. | [15 U.S.C. 7704(a)(4)](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/7704) |
| CAN-SPAM, effort | You cannot charge a fee or ask for more than an email address. A reply email or one web page must be enough. | [16 CFR 316.5](https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/16/316.5) |
| CAN-SPAM, the address | You cannot sell or transfer the address of someone who opted out, except to a company you hired to help you comply. | [FTC compliance guide](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business) |
| CAN-SPAM, B2B | Business-to-business email is covered. The law has no exception for it. | [FTC compliance guide](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business) |
| GDPR, objection | A person can object to direct marketing at any time. After that, their data may no longer be processed for that purpose. | [GDPR Article 21(2) and (3)](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32016R0679) |
| UK GDPR, suppression | The right to object to direct marketing is absolute. The ICO prefers suppressing details to erasing them, so you keep just enough to respect the objection. | [ICO: right to object](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/uk-gdpr-guidance-and-resources/individual-rights/individual-rights/right-to-object/) |

The UK rules for company addresses differ from the rules for individuals. A work email that names a person is personal data, and sole traders are treated like individuals. Read the [ICO's business-to-business guidance](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/direct-marketing-and-privacy-and-electronic-communications/business-to-business-marketing/) for the details. For calls and texts, see [TCPA rules for B2B cold calling](https://enrich.chat/blog/tcpa-b2b-cold-calling/).

This page is not legal advice. A Do not contact list does not make your outreach compliant. You decide who you contact and why, and the rules that apply depend on where your recipients are. Ask a lawyer about your own case.

## How do you build a Do not contact list that works?

Start with the people who have told you no, and keep the list in one place. AiSDR's guide to [B2B suppression lists](https://aisdr.com/blog/suppression-list/) names the usual entries: unsubscribes, spam complaints, hard bounces, current customers, competitors and your own staff. Check the list before every export.

- **Use company websites for whole-company exclusions.** One entry for a competitor's website covers everyone there.
- **Add opt-outs the day they arrive.** The law counts business days from the request. See also [how bounce rates affect sending](https://enrich.chat/blog/email-bounce-rate/) and [the risks of bought email lists](https://enrich.chat/blog/buying-email-lists/).
- **Search and save from the dashboard.** Anyone on your list is flagged in [people search](https://enrich.chat/features/people-search/), so you can skip them before you save or reveal. Everyone on the team sees the same flags.

### What the Do not contact list does not do

- **One list per team.** Your team shares a single list, other teams cannot see it, and there is no SSO or SAML.
- **Pasted by hand.** There is no sync with a CRM or a sending tool. You add and remove entries yourself.
- **No sending.** Enrich.chat does not send email, so honoring an opt-out in your sending tool is still your job.
- **Dashboard and jobs only.** Direct lookups through the API and the MCP server do not apply your list.
- **Your entries only.** It does not check outside lists such as the National Do Not Call Registry.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is a do-not-contact list?

A do-not-contact list holds the people, emails or companies you have agreed never to contact, such as people who opted out. It is also called a [suppression list](https://www.unsubcentral.com/what-is-a-suppression-list). The UK regulator, the ICO, [recommends](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/direct-marketing-and-privacy-and-electronic-communications/business-to-business-marketing/) adding people who object to a do not contact or suppression list and screening new marketing lists against it. In Enrich.chat it lives in the dashboard: it flags matches in search, switches off their reveals and leaves them out of exports.

### Do I have to keep a suppression list under CAN-SPAM?

CAN-SPAM does not name a list. It says you must stop commercial email to a person more than 10 business days after they opt out, and it bars selling or transferring their address. A list is the usual way to remember who opted out. The law covers business-to-business email too, as the [FTC's compliance guide](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business) explains. This is not legal advice.

### Does Enrich.chat's Do not contact list block reveals and search results?

In the dashboard it does the following: a matching person or company is flagged "Do not contact" in search, their reveal buttons are off, and they are left out of CSV exports and the contact columns of Bulk enrich files. Background jobs apply it too. Direct lookups through the API or the MCP server return what they find. An email entry matches a search result once that person's email has been revealed; a company website or LinkedIn entry always matches. Opt-outs from the [opt-out page](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/) apply to every result, for everyone.

### How do I opt out of Enrich.chat?

Email privacy@enrich.chat from the address you want removed. Include your full name, LinkedIn profile URL, email addresses and phone numbers so we can find every record. Requests are processed within 15 days, and we confirm by email once your records are deleted and suppressed. The [opt-out page](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/) also links to California's DROP platform for California residents.

### Can my team share one Do not contact list?

Yes. A team shares one Do not contact list, so an entry added once applies to every searcher, export and job on the team. The owner invites people by email, the owner's plan pays for everyone's credits, and plans have unlimited seats. A viewer cannot change anything. You can also keep a master list in your CRM or sending tool and paste it in. See [team workspaces](https://enrich.chat/features/team-workspaces/).

### Does GDPR apply to B2B cold email?

It can. The ICO says UK GDPR applies when a work email address identifies a person, for example when it contains their name, and that person has an absolute right to object to direct marketing. A generic address such as info@ is not personal data. Rules for company addresses differ from rules for sole traders. Ask a lawyer which rules apply to your recipients. This is not legal advice.
