# ABM lead lists: pick the accounts first, then find the people

Search companies by industry, size, technology and funding. Then pull the buyers at each account, save them with tags and export a CSV. Counts cost nothing.

By Enrich.chat Editorial. Updated October 19, 2026.

**Short answer:** An ABM (account-based marketing) lead list starts with accounts, then people. Search companies by industry, size band, technology and funding stage, then pull the VPs and directors at each company website. Counts are free. Fifty accounts with five contacts each and a work email for every contact use 4,000 credits, which fits the Growth plan.

## Key takeaways

- Pick the accounts first. Company search filters by industry, location, size band, revenue band, technology, funding stage, growth, traffic and founded year, and the live count is free.
- Find the buying group with `GET /v1/company/people`, or paste up to 50 company websites into a people search and filter by level and department.
- A work email costs 10 credits and a mobile 250, only when found. A 50-account, 5-contact list with an email for each person uses 4,000 credits.
- Your team shares the lists and one credit pool. Match tiers rank the buying group, strictest role first.
- Gaps: no intent data, no sending or sequencing, no CRM sync, and no SSO.

## What an ABM team gets

- **Accounts first.** Filter companies by industry, location, size, revenue band, technology, funding, growth and traffic, and leave out the rest.
- **Free counts.** Size every list before you spend. Counts and filter lists use 0 credits.
- **The buying group.** Find people at each company website by level, department and title.
- **Tags and notes.** Save accounts and contacts to lists your whole team shares, tag each row, add a note and export CSV or Excel.
- **A status on every email.** Each work email comes back verified, catch_all or unknown. Treat catch_all as risky.
- **Do not contact.** Customers and competitors you add are left out of every list export, for the whole team.

## From target accounts to a saved buying group

1. **Pick the accounts.** Filter companies by industry, size, technology and funding. Watch the free count until the list is the right size.
2. **Find the buyers.** Search people at those company websites by level, department and title. The `has_email` and `has_mobile` flags show what is on file before you reveal anything.
3. **Reveal, tag and export.** Reveal work emails, save people to a list with a tag and a note, then download a CSV.

## What is an ABM lead list?

An ABM lead list has two layers: the target accounts you picked, and the people at each account who help make a buying decision. ABM stands for account-based marketing. [Demandbase](https://www.demandbase.com/faq/account-based-marketing-101/) describes it as marketing and sales work aimed at a defined set of high-value accounts instead of a wide audience. Our [account-based marketing guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/account-based-marketing/) covers the whole program.

The order matters. [HubSpot's guide to choosing target accounts](https://blog.hubspot.com/sales/how-to-choose-target-accounts-account-based-marketing) starts with the business goal and your ideal customer profile, then adds firmographics such as size, industry and revenue, and technographics such as the tools a company runs. [Revnew's list-building guide](https://revnew.com/blog/list-building-for-abm) also settles the accounts before it gets to contacts. Enrich.chat works the same way: company search first, then people.

Size the list to your team. Revnew says typical ABM lists run from 50 to 500 accounts, while Demandbase puts a one-to-few cluster at 5 to 15 accounts. [Demand Science](https://demandscience.com/resources/blog/abm-data-and-intent-signals/) argues that a two-person team will get better engagement from 15 accounts than from 50. The worked example below uses 50 accounts so you can start with the top few and widen later.

## How do you build the account list with Enrich.chat?

Use Companies in the [dashboard](https://enrich.chat/app/) or call `GET /v1/companies`. You can filter by industry, country and US state, size band, revenue band, technology used, funding stage, funded since, employee growth, web traffic, founded year and name. The [company search](https://enrich.chat/features/company-search/) page lists each filter. The count of matches updates as you edit the filters and costs nothing. In code, `GET /v1/companies/count` returns the same number.

**Figure 1: The Companies screen: filters on the left, results on the right.** A drawing of the Companies screen in the dashboard. Filters sit on the left: industry, employee size band, technology used and US state. On the right are a live count that updates as you edit the filters and is free, buttons to add to a list or export, and a table of companies with a People button on each row.

*The Companies screen: filters on the left, a free live count and the results on the right. Company names are made up. Source: [Enrich.chat company search](https://enrich.chat/features/company-search/).*

Open any company to see its profile: industry, size, revenue band, founded year, location, funding, growth, web traffic and the technologies it runs. You also get its email format, and one click finds the people there. Revenue is a band, not an exact figure, and `employees_on_linkedin` is a signal for size, not a headcount.

Many more filters help you sharpen a tier: NAICS and SIC codes, investor, total funding, whether a company has a CIO or CISO, and team-size signals such as the number of people in sales or IT roles. Exclusions leave out sizes, industries and company names. `GET /v1/filters` lists them all for free.

Searches that filter by technology, funding, growth or traffic return one page of up to 25 companies. To reach 50 accounts, run two narrower searches, for example one per size band.

Already have named accounts? Paste up to 50 company websites into "Only these companies" on a people search. For a longer list, upload a CSV to [Bulk enrich](https://enrich.chat/features/bulk-enrichment/) and choose Enrich companies. Run it on the server and it keeps going after you close the tab, and a signed webhook can tell your app when it finishes ([background jobs](https://enrich.chat/features/background-jobs/)). Both routes take a website, not a company name. To check the tools a single account runs, try the free [tech stack lookup](https://enrich.chat/tools/tech-stack-lookup/).

## How do you find the buying group at each account?

Ask for people by company website, level and department. In the dashboard, open People, paste the account websites into "Only these companies" and set the level and department. In code, call `GET /v1/company/people` for one account at a time. The [people search API](https://enrich.chat/api/people-search/) page lists every filter.

```
GET https://enrich.chat/v1/company/people
  ?domain=brightwave.example.com
  &level=vp,director&limit=5
```

Each person comes back with an `id`, name, title, level, country and two flags, `has_email` and `has_mobile`. The flags show whether an email or a mobile is on file before you pay to reveal one. Results run best first: people with an email and a mobile on file, then people with an email only. To size the whole group before you spend, `GET /v1/search/count` takes up to 50 websites in `company_domain` and returns how many people match.

Five contacts per account is a starting point. [6sense](https://6sense.com/science-of-b2b/meet-the-b2b-buying-group) reports that a typical buying group has about 10 members and names five roles: decision maker, champion, influencer, financial ratifier and procurement. Spread your five contacts across roles instead of taking five titles from one team. [Match tiers](https://enrich.chat/features/match-tiers/) do this in one call: put VPs in the first tier and directors in the second, and each person comes back once with a score of 100 or 75 (see the Tiers tab at the top of this page). Our guides to [decision makers in a company](https://enrich.chat/blog/decision-makers-in-a-company/) and the [account mapping template](https://enrich.chat/blog/company-org-chart/) cover the roles and how to record them.

**Figure 2: Credit maths for a 50-account list with 5 contacts each.** A three-step flow with credit costs. Step 1, GET /v1/companies lists 50 accounts in two searches of 25 and uses 250 credits. Step 2, GET /v1/company/people lists 5 people at each account, 250 people, for 1,250 credits. Step 3, GET /v1/person reveals up to 250 work emails for at most 2,500 credits. The total is 4,000 credits, which fits the Growth plan.

*Credit maths for 50 accounts, 5 people each, and a work email for every person. An illustrative workload at the public credit rates on the [pricing page](https://enrich.chat/pricing/).*

Reveal what you need once the people are listed. A work email costs 10 credits and a mobile 250. Anything not found costs 0. Each email comes back marked `verified`, `catch_all` or `unknown`. Treat a `catch_all` address as risky, because the domain accepts every address and the mailbox cannot be confirmed. The [catch-all email guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/what-is-a-catch-all-email/) explains why.

Save as you go. A list holds people or companies, so keep one companies list for the accounts and one people list for the contacts. Each row takes a tag and a note: the account name or tier on a person, the buying role in the note. Revealed contacts stay in your account, so opening them again is free. Lists, saved searches and revealed contacts are shared by your whole [team](https://enrich.chat/features/team-workspaces/), so a seller and a marketer work from the same rows, and the owner's plan pays for everyone.

**Figure 3: A saved people list with tags, notes and revealed contacts.** A drawing of a people list in the dashboard named Q4 target accounts, with buttons to reveal emails and export a CSV. Each row shows a person, a contact column that holds a verified or catch-all email or reveal buttons for email and mobile, a tag with the account name and a short note such as sponsor, champion, evaluator or finance.

## What does a 50-account list with 5 contacts each cost?

With a work email for every contact, the list uses 4,000 credits, which fits the Growth plan at $29 a month. Each company or person returned in a list uses 5 credits, and counts are free. The table is an illustrative workload, not a quote for your data.

| Step | What you call | Credits |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Count accounts and people | `/v1/companies/count`, `/v1/search/count` | 0 |
| List 50 accounts | `/v1/companies`, two searches of 25 | 250 |
| List 5 people at each account | `/v1/company/people`, 50 calls | 1,250 |
| Reveal a work email for each person | `/v1/person`, up to 250 calls | Up to 2,500 |
| Total | With an email for all 250 people | 4,000 |

The email line is a ceiling, because a person with no email on file costs nothing to reveal. Add mobiles for the two best contacts at each account, 100 numbers, and the total rises by 25,000 credits to 29,000, still on the Growth plan. Credits renew with each monthly payment, and unused credits do not roll over. See [pricing](https://enrich.chat/pricing/) for the plans.

On the free tier, a search page counts as one lookup however many rows it shows, so the two account searches use 2 of the day's 10 lookups. Revealing 250 emails needs a plan.

```text
Use www.enrich.chat to build an ABM list. Count Series A software companies in Texas that use HubSpot, list 25 of them, then find up to 5 VPs or directors at each. Tell me the credits_used total before you reveal any work emails.
```

The prompt works in any agent with the [Enrich.chat MCP server](https://enrich.chat/install/). The [company enrichment API](https://enrich.chat/api/company-enrichment/) page covers the same data over GET requests.

## What does Enrich.chat not do for ABM?

Enrich.chat supplies the contact layer of an ABM program, not the program itself. Plan for these gaps:

- **No intent data.** Enrich.chat does not show which accounts are researching a topic. Demand Science notes that third-party intent can mislead because it does not show why or who is researching. The [intent data guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/intent-data/) explains when a contact list works better.
- **No sending, sequencing or CRM sync.** Export a CSV or Excel file and import it into your CRM, email tool or ad platform. LinkedIn needs a company list to match at least 300 accounts before it can run as an ad audience, per [LinkedIn's help page](https://www.linkedin.com/help/lms/answer/a423102), so a 50-account list suits direct outreach, not that route.
- **No alerts.** Enrich.chat does not watch accounts for hires or news, and webhooks announce finished jobs only. A saved search keeps your filters so you can run it again by hand.
- **Team limits.** There is no SSO or SAML sign-in, and you cannot cap credits per person. A viewer on your team can read lists but cannot spend credits.
- **A depth limit.** One search returns at most 1,000 results. Narrow the filters to go deeper.

## How do you contact an ABM list without breaking the rules?

Remove accounts you should not contact before the list reaches an outreach tool. Add customers, open deals and competitors to [Do not contact](https://enrich.chat/features/do-not-contact/) as emails, company websites or LinkedIn profiles. They are left out of every list export for your whole team, and opt-outs from [enrich.chat/opt-out/](https://enrich.chat/opt-out/) are applied to every result. In a search, `exclude_domains` leaves out up to 50 websites.

Then follow the rules for the channel. The FTC's [CAN-SPAM guide](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business) says the law makes no exception for business-to-business email, and that you must honor opt-outs within 10 business days. In the UK, the ICO says [a work address that identifies a person is personal data](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/direct-marketing-and-privacy-and-electronic-communications/business-to-business-marketing/) and that people can object to direct marketing. Calls and texts to mobiles fall under other rules, covered in the [TCPA guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/tcpa-b2b-cold-calling/). This is not legal advice, and using Enrich.chat does not make a campaign compliant.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is ABM contact data?

ABM contact data is the company and people information you need to run campaigns against a chosen set of accounts. On the company side that means industry, size, revenue band, funding and technologies. On the people side it means names, titles, levels and work emails for the buying group. Enrich.chat returns both: [company search](https://enrich.chat/features/company-search/) for the accounts and [people search](https://enrich.chat/features/people-search/) for the contacts at each company website.

### How do you build a target account list for ABM?

Start from your ideal customer profile and turn it into filters: industry, size band, technology and funding stage. [HubSpot's guide to choosing target accounts](https://blog.hubspot.com/sales/how-to-choose-target-accounts-account-based-marketing) uses the same inputs. In Enrich.chat, watch the free live count as you edit the filters, open a few companies to check the fit, and save the ones you keep to a list with a tier tag. The [ideal customer profile guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/ideal-customer-profile/) shows how to write the profile.

### How many contacts should you find per account in ABM?

There is no standard number. The [HubSpot](https://blog.hubspot.com/sales/how-to-choose-target-accounts-account-based-marketing) and [Revnew](https://revnew.com/blog/list-building-for-abm) guides give none. [6sense](https://6sense.com/science-of-b2b/meet-the-b2b-buying-group) reports that a typical buying group has about 10 members, so five contacts reach about half. Spread them across roles, such as decision maker, champion, influencer, finance and procurement, and widen at the accounts that respond.

### Can I use my own list of target accounts?

Yes, if you have company websites. Paste up to 50 sites into "Only these companies" on a people search, or upload a CSV to [Bulk enrich](https://enrich.chat/features/bulk-enrichment/) and choose Enrich companies. A run holds up to 5,000 rows. Choose Run it on the server and it keeps going after you close the tab, with results kept for 30 days, or run it in your browser tab. A row that finds nothing is free. Company names alone are not looked up.

### Does Enrich.chat include intent data for ABM?

No. Enrich.chat has no intent data, so it cannot tell you which accounts are researching a topic. It covers the contact layer: company profiles, the people at each account and work emails with a status. If you use a separate intent source, paste the websites it flags into a people search. Our [intent data guide](https://enrich.chat/blog/intent-data/) explains when a contact list works better.

### How much does an ABM contact list cost in credits?

Counts and filter lists use 0 credits. Each company or person returned in a list uses 5 credits, a work email found uses 10 and a mobile 250. Fifty accounts with five people each and an email for all 250 use 4,000 credits, which fits the Growth plan at $29 a month. See [pricing](https://enrich.chat/pricing/).
